Hey everyone, Recently we received a letter from our ISP saying that we had used all of our monthly GB allowance and since we had downloaded more than the limit we had to pay some more at the end of the month. Do you guys know of an easy to use and setup program that allows me to monitor all the downloads on my network? Im talking about my own computer, a second computer and Ipods, we download apps with the ipods, stream movies from them sometimes ,etc and that also uses some of that monthly allowance of course. I don't need something extravagant with loads of features (since I don't know much about QoS packets, protocols, etc as mentioned on some of the programs I googled before - don't know what any of those are) but yeah just something really simple that shows downloads done by IP A or IP B for example. Hi, I have done a little googling on this and i can't seem to find anything that suits me. I need anything, software or whatever, that can limit the speed for certain computers connected to my network. I am running Vista SP1, and so are on the other computers i want to limit. I really need a router with QoS Classes and more to it then the BT Homehub, I find the BT Homehub very limited is resources. I know people say it's great but bottom line is I have my reasons. So I bought a ZyXEL P-660HN-F1Z Router which has a built in ADSL2+ Modem. I managed to configure it to connect to BT, I checked the log and I CHAP Authentication is succesfull. Also I get an IP and DNS servers from BT... BUT - I cannot view any websites. I can ping a domain name (e.g google.com) and get the ip, but that's it. Same for tracerouting, The hop never leaves my router, just fails after hitting the router from my pc. What can I do? Where have I gone wrong? Setup: WAN Information: DSL Mode: ADSL_G.dmt IP Address: 86.138.66.37 IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255 Default Gateway: N/A VPI/VCI: 0/38 No Default Gateway? WTF? When I connect with my homehub I get one. I really do not get this - please help! I just spent £55 in total (£30 to signup to BT Home Tech help and £25 on mobile phone credit to call em as my homehub wasn't connected.. doh!) so thought this might help you guys. Today I contacted a Cisco engineer and a Linux Expert on this and both of them where baffled as too why BT did not give me a default gateway. I went through setting up my router with the tech expert - who put in the exact same settings I had been using. After trying too restarts (one hard, one a power cycle) the connection suddenly worked!! Just as I was giving up and even the tech support was stunned it just worked. I will still ask for my money back as BT didnt actually provide any extra help so it definatly isnt worth the money I paid and just looks like their setup is dodgey. I have a Linksys WAG354G which I use to connect to Orange broadband. It's working fine, except it reports that I am connected at 6016 Kbps. I am not getting download speeds anywhere near that fast, so I was wondering what settings on the router I could change to make the connection better? I've tried PPPoA and PPPoE and they seem the same, but I'm not sure what the multiplexing, QoS Type, Virtual Circuit or any of the other settings are for. Back in the 50's, 60's and even in to the 70's.... Scottish football had 'amazing attendance figures, it's not the the population of the Country has fallen. Due to my insomnia, I have looked into this and it is quite something..... Teams such as Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, StMirren were fairly regularly attracting 30,000+ to home games while others like Thistle, Dundee, Killie, St Johnstone to name a few were usually around or over 20,000... I mean even sides like QoS, Morton, Falkirk, Dunfermline and my own Raith were often 15,000+ Sides in our current 3rd Div, some were getting up to and over 10,000 at games, they now struggle to have 500 fans turn up! Where have the fans gone and why?? Is it cost? Better choice of things to do on a Saturday afternoon? Kids preferring cheap cider and video games to Football? or Is it because their team have little to play for in terms of actually winning a trophy? Is it generations of children being brought up to 'support' the Old Firm by their parents when attending your local team's games were the norm back then? Do you know the answer? If you have 2 routers, and you connect one to the other, and the other connected to your modem, could you have the router connected directly to your modem be your private network, and the router connected to the router be a public one. And then set the QOS settings in the router settings to make the public network have low priority? Hi there , i currently have a billion 7300g wireless adsl Router with QoS but it keeps cutting out the internet and then reconnecting. This is a real annoyance when trying to play online multiplayers games (such as WoW). It's pretty good but there are some things that i just don't like, ie QoS RSVP and many other win services that need to be disabled to tweak net performance and security. The question I'd like to ask is this, if I installed PCLinuxOS or Red Hat (dual boot with XP) what sort of compatibility problems would i be likely to experience, ie games and applications that run under windows, drivers etc, and would it cause problems with my XP installation?. I found this website which offers instructions to expand your bandwidth. It claims that telling certain programs not to "reserve" bandwidth for themselves will increase the speed of your It connection. As follows: First Make sure your logged on as actually "Administrator". Start->Run->type gpedit.msc Expand the "Local Computer Policy" branch. Expand the "Administrative Templates" branch. Expand the "Network Branch". Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left window. In right window double-click the "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" setting. On setting tab check the "Enabled" item. Where it says "Bandwidth limit%" change it to read 0. Effect is immediate on some systems, some need to re-boot. This is more of a "counter what XP does" thing. In other words, programs can request up to 20% of the bandwidth be reserved for them, even with QoS disabled.And now yuppie you will have a fast net connection now. It does not work!
