Resolved Question: why do people think vitamins, supplements, etc. are dangerous?
Zero deaths caused by vitamins, minerals, amino acids or herbs by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor (NaturalNews) To hear opponents of natural medicine say it, vitamins and herbs are extremely dangerous for your health. They should be regulated, we're told, because they're so dangerous! Statistics from the U.S. National Poison Data System prove otherwise. According to a 174-page report just published, the number of people killed in 2009 across America by vitamins, minerals, amino acids or herbal supplements is exactly zero. Compare that to the 100,000 (or so) Americans killed each year by FDA-approved pharmaceuticals -- and that's even according to studies published in JAMA. Also consider the thousands of women harmed or killed by medically-unjustified cancer treatments following false positives from faulty mammograms. And don't forget about the more than 16,500 Americans killed each year from internal bleeding caused by NSAIDs (over-the-counter painkillers). As the July 1998 issue of The American Journal of Medicine explains: "Conservative calculations estimate that approximately 107,000 patients are hospitalized annually for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-related gastrointestinal (GI) complications and at least 16,500 NSAID-related deaths occur each year among arthritis patients alone." (Singh Gurkirpal, MD, "Recent Considerations in Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug Gastropathy", The American Journal of Medicine, July 27, 1998, p. 31S) So if NSAIDs alone are killing 16,500 people a year (or likely much more now, as use of these drugs has risen significantly since 1998), and nutritional supplements are killing zero people a year, why do health regulators try to scare everybody about vitamins being so "dangerous?" Pharmaceuticals, meanwhile, are openly allowed to be prescribed for off-label use, meaning that doctors can prescribe them for diseases and health conditions for which they've never even been tested! What's wrong with this picture? It's clearly a war against nutrition -- a war against natural medicine -- being waged by the health regulators of the world who are conspiring with Big Pharma to keep the people trapped in a state of malnutrition (all while profiting from their disease by selling them more patented pharmaceuticals). The Orthomolecular Medicine News Service published a full article on this issue. Here's what they had to say about the safety of nutritional supplements and the misguided attempts by world governments to limit or outlaw many supplements. No Deaths from Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids or Herbs Poison Control Statistics Prove Supplements' Safety There was not even one death caused by a dietary supplement in 2008, according to the most recent information collected by the U.S. National Poison Data System. The new 174-page annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers, published in the journal Clinical Toxicology, shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins; zero deaths from any of the B vitamins; zero deaths from vitamins A, C, D, or E; and zero deaths from any other vitamin. Additionally, there were no deaths whatsoever from any amino acid or herbal product. This means no deaths at all from blue cohosh, echinacea, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, kava kava, St. John's wort, valerian, yohimbe, Asian medicines, ayurvedic medicines, or any other botanical. There were zero deaths from creatine, blue-green algae, glucosamine, chondroitin, melatonin, or any homeopathic remedies. Furthermore, there were zero deaths in 2008 from any dietary mineral supplement. This means there were no fatalities from calcium, magnesium, chromium, zinc, colloidal silver, selenium, iron, or multimineral supplements. Two children died as a result of medical use of the antacid sodium bicarbonate. The other "Electrolyte and Mineral" category death was due to a man accidentally drinking sodium hydroxide, a highly toxic degreaser and drain-opener. No man, woman or child died from nutritional supplements. Period. 61 poison centers provide coast-to-coast data for the U.S. National Poison Data System, which is then reviewed by 29 medical and clinical toxicologists. NPDS, the authors write, is "one of the few real-time national surveillance systems in existence, providing a model public health surveillance system for all types of exposures, public health event identification, resilience response and situational awareness tracking." Over half of the U.S. population takes daily nutritional supplements. Even if each of those people took only one single tablet daily, that makes 154,000,000 individual doses per day, for a total of over 56 billion doses annually. Since many persons take more than just one vitamin or mineral tablet, actual consumption is considerably higher, and the safety of nutritional supplements is all the more remarkable. If nutritional supplements are allegedly so "dangerous," as the FDA and news medi moreResolved Question: Do market forces simply stop because the Whitehouse wants them to?
The tax on cadillac health care may exempt union members and government workers. http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/31506 To help make up for the lost revenue, Democrats are targeting at least two industries that already put up contributions to health reform’s bottom line. The hospital industry has been asked to offer another $15 billion in concessions on top of a $155 billion deal last summer with the White House, according to one source. And the pharmaceutical industry has agreed to provide an extra $10 billion to their already negotiated $80 billion deal over 10 years. So, will this increase to the health industry insure lower costs to consumers of health care? If you think it will, how? Brian, that is a scary thought, but you are most likely correct. Shaw - How can we expecty lower costs? Just because you say we can? moreResolved Question: On scale of 1 to 10: How badly did Dems sell out to corporate lobbying interests with this helathcare bill?
10 - They sold out the voters about as bad as they could have. 1 - This is an excellent piece of reform that will put the insurance/pharmaceutical industries in their place. Let's recap: No public option, no watered down public option, no medicaid buy-in, and no cheaper drugs due to backroom deal between BIG PHARMA and the WH. Obviously this sell-out to corporate America was not enough to get 60 votes in the Senate. So then they cut the "Louisiana Purchase" with Landrieu and bought her vote for over a hundred million. Then there was the "Cornhusker Kickback" which they used to buy Ben Nelson's vote for over $100 million. AND NOW they have made a special deal ("Labor Loophole") to exempt organized labor from the new excise tax on "cadillac" plans. If you happen to be in the middle class and own one of these plans BUT AREN"T in labor union........tough sh*t. And of course Obama flip-flopped on almost every single substantive campaign promise he made as a candidate with regards to healthcare. (1 Transparency, 2 Individual Mandates, 3 Taxes on Cadillac Plans) Are Democrats really going to try to sell this piece of sh*t as REFORM?? http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NjZlYzRkNDc2MjkwNTEwM2Q3NTNjNTY0NzZmYWUwOGI= The nation’s labor unions, according to Congress Daily, have cut a deal with House Democrats: Labor will drop its opposition to the so-called Cadillac tax — an excise tax on high-cost employer-provided health-care plans — if Congress will carve out an exemption for plans provided under collective-bargaining agreements. Even after all the unsavory bargains and rotten deals that have characterized the rush to get this thing passed (the “Louisiana Purchase,” the “Cornhusker Kickback,” etc.) the “Labor Loophole” surely takes the prize. A few Democrats in the Senate already tried this trick and were laughed out of the smoke-filled room, so nakedly obvious was the special-interest favoritism at work. That the Democratic party is seriously reconsidering this deal is a sign of how desperate it has become to pass a bill — any bill — that shoves the federal foot through the waiting-room door. --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Obama promised to have healthcare negotiations on C-SPAN......(obviously these negotiations are taking place behind closed doors.........hence the vote buying etc.) To be fair: cameras were allowed to film for a whopping ONE HOUR. http://www.breitbart.tv/c-span-ceo-white-house-has-allowed-only-one-hour-of-health-care-coverage/ 2. Obama campaigned AGAINST a federal mandate for individuals to buy private insurance.........(he now supports it........hmmmm) "I mean, if a mandate was the solution, we can try that to solve homelessness by mandating everybody to buy a house. The reason they don’t buy a house is they don’t have the money. " -Candidate Barack Obama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoSnqofelsQ 3. Obama campaigned AGAINST taxing "cadillac plans"...........(he now supports it) "John McCain calls these plans “Cadillac plans.” Now in some cases, it may be that a corporate CEO is getting too good a deal. But what if you’re a line worker making a good American car like the Cadillac? What if you’re one of the steelworkers who are working right here in Newport News, and you’ve given up wage increases in exchange for a better health care" -Candidate Barack Obama http://firedoglake.com/2010/01/07/cadillac-flip-flop-obama-was-against-health-plan-tax-before-he-was-for-it/ http://www.youtube.com/watch moreResolved Question: World Health Organization (WHO) is Under Fire For Supporting Drug Companies by Pushing Swine Flu Vaccine?
Yesterday, here's what FOX News first had to say about what was initially reported in London's newspaper The Sun: "A leading health expert said the swine flu scare was a 'false pandemic' led by drug companies that stood to make billions from vaccines, The Sun reported Monday. Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe, claimed major firms organized a 'campaign of panic' to put pressure on the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic. The Council of Europe covers 47 European countries and seeks to develop common and democratic principles between the nations. Wodarg said, 'It's just a normal kind of flu. It does not cause a tenth of deaths caused by the classic seasonal flu.' 'The great campaign of panic we have seen provided a golden opportunity for representatives from labs who knew they would hit the jackpot in the case of a pandemic being declared.' 'We want to clarify everything that brought about this massive operation of disinformation. We want to know who made decisions, on the basis of what evidence, and precisely how the influence of the pharmaceutical industry came to bear on the decision-making.' He added: 'A group of people in the WHO is associated very closely with the pharmaceutical industry.' "The severity of the H1N1 outbreak was deliberately exaggerated by pharmaceutical companies that stood to make billions of dollars from a worldwide scare, a leading European health expert has claimed." http://english.aljazeera.net/news/europe/2010/01/20101111330498806.html "Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe, has accused the makers of vaccines for the virus of influencing the World Health Organisation's (WHO) decision to declare a pandemic." moreResolved Question: Do you believe this article about swine flu?
The swine flu outbreak was a 'false pandemic' driven by drug companies that stood to make billions of pounds from a worldwide scare, a leading health expert has claimed. Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe, accused the makers of flu drugs and vaccines of influencing the World Health Organisation's decision to declare a pandemic. This led to the pharmaceutical firms ensuring 'enormous gains', while countries, including the UK, 'squandered' their meagre health budgets, with millions being vaccinated against a relatively mild disease. A resolution proposed by Dr Wodarg calling for an investigation into the role of drug firms has been passed by the Council of Europe, the Strasbourg-based 'senate' responsible for the European Court of Human Rights. An emergency debate on the issue will be held later this month. Dr Wodarg's claims come as it emerged the British government is desperately trying to offload up to £1billion of swine flu vaccine, ordered at the height of the scare. If this is true I think the media are also to blame as well as some Government officials. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1242147/The-false-pandemic-Drug-firms-cashed-scare-swine-flu-claims-Euro-health-chief.html?ITO=1708&referrer=yahoo moreResolved Question: Does my paper about depression seem accurate? Convincing?
Well, technically, it is a speech I am in high school There is a taboo disorder out there. It leads to 33,000 deaths every year in the United States. It is depression. (Not sure on how to structure the rest of the intro-ask for help) Did you know that, according to outofthedarkness.org more Americans suffer from depression than coronary heart disease, cancer and HIV/AIDS? Depression causes suicide, monetary losses, immense emotional suffering, and other diseases. The Uplift Program says that 15% of depressed people will commit suicide. This contributes to the 33,000 people in the United States that commit suicide every year. Outofthedarkness also says that 75% of people who die by suicide suffer from major depression. The Uplift Program also states that according to studies depression will be the second largest killer after heart disease by 2020. There is also the financial aspect. The previous source goes on to state that depression results in more absenteeism than almost any other physical disorder and costs employers more than US$51 billion per year in absenteeism and lost productivity, not including high medical and pharmaceutical bills. Studies are increasingly linking more illnesses to depression, including: osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, some forms of cancer, eye disease and back pain. Arguable the biggest consequence of depression is the deep emotional pain. Hopelessness, loneliness, and feelings of inadequacy are very common. The biggest symptom is just utter despair and misery with no hope. No one should have to live through that. Depression is caused in the brain. It is a physical disorder, like asthma or a vitamin deficiency. With a combination of therapy and anti-depressants 80% of depression can be significantly improved. So why is it that 80% of depression goes untreated, leading to years in emotional pain or suicide? The answer is in the social stigma applied to depression and a lack of education. 54% of people believe that depression is a personal weakness, according to the uplift program. This leads to people hiding it, not wanting to be labeled as “emo” or weird. No one can deny how judgmental teens are, and this is why it needs to be discussed and talked about. There is also the fact that there is practically no education on depression. The Illinois State Board of Education’s website lists state goals for health education. They list that students should know how to wash hands by a certain age or talk about pollution’s effect on our health but nowhere do they mention the 3rd highest killer of teenagers. At any given point more people are suffering from depression than colds, yet our state thinks it is more important to educate us on the flu?! Health class is mandated all the way to high school, but they couldn’t find one week to dedicate to it? While there is no easy way to “cure” depression overnight there are many things to do to provide help. Depression CAN be treated. What needs to happen is people need to recognize depression and seek help. A little education can do a lot. One week of health class curriculum devoted to warning signs and how to get help can drastically change people’s views. According to ABC news a group of more than 3,500 students took a test on knowledge on depression, completed a depression curriculum, and then took the test again. The number of students scoring 80 percent or higher more than tripled after the program. This shows that a little education can educate a lot. With 80% of people with depression not seeking treatment for a variety of reasons including shame or not recognizing their symptoms education could help a lot. People could go from thinking their depression is shameful to realizing it is a disorder that can be treated. Students should be taught the warning signs of depression and suicide, that way they can recognize it. 80% of teens who committed suicide showed warning signs. If people recognized these the people could get help. Education is key. With proper education depression will go from being taboo to a disorder that should be treated. In conclusion, depression, which is very prevalent, causes suicide, monetary losses, and deep emotional pain. A large part of the problem is people’s lack of education, which leads to people not getting help, along with the feelings of shame associated. This can be changed if people are educated. If people were educated on the warning signs, what causes it, and that it could be treated fewer Americans would suffer every day. Every person can help solve this problem. Learn the warning signs. Learn the cause. Learn how to help a friend. If you suspect someone you know may be suicidal tell someone. If you are feeling depressed or suicidal call 1-800-SUICIDE for help. moreResolved Question: Do liberals agree with this Politico article that Obama is more like Bush than we thought?
He’s more like George W. Bush that you thought Barack Obama denounced the Bush administration time and time again on the campaign trail in 2008. But in 2009, he suddenly found a surprising number of ways to agree with his predecessor. Obama initially invoked Bush-ian logic in rejecting a watchdog group’s request for a list of health care executives who had meetings at the White House — sounding a lot like the Bush administration fighting to keep its energy task force meetings secret. The Obama White House relented in part after being sued and released the names of several executives. Since then, Obama has begun to regularly release details on many of the people who visit the executive mansion. On the campaign trail, Obama also bashed the Bush administration’s 2003 deal with the pharmaceutical industry that blocked the government from negotiating prices with the nation’s drug makers. But during the summer, his administration gave the drug makers the same deal if they’d back his health care plan. And the president continued his George W. Bush impression when he announced a “surge” of forces in Afghanistan — just as Bush had done in Iraq just over two years earlier. Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/31071.html#ixzz0bSJ7akW4 moreResolved Question: Health care bill: Is Obama playing the appeasement card? Does he care about losing pharmaceutical support?
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5BF0DW20091220?type=politicsNews%3FfeedType%3DRSS&feedName=politicsNews&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Reuters%2FPoliticsNews+%28News+%2F+US+%2F+Politics+News%29&utm_content=My+Yahoo The pharmaceutical industry's powerful Washington lobbying group backs the healthcare reform legislation that is President Barack Obama's top legislative priority, but its important support for that effort could evaporate if drug imports are included. White House adviser David Axelrod said the administration will pursue the issue, but not in the healthcare reform bill. "Let me be clear. The president supports ... safe re-importation of drugs into this country," Axelrod told CNN's "State of the Union" program. "There's no reason why Americans should pay a premium for the pharmaceuticals that people in other countries pay less for." The importation of drugs from other countries has been proposed for years as a way to lower prescription drug costs in the United States. The same prescription drugs sold in the United States often are sold at much lower prices in other countries, including Canada. Both Obama and Republican rival John McCain supported drug imports during last year's presidential campaign. But the Obama administration recently issued a letter from the Food and Drug Administration citing safety concerns. "The president is committed to moving forward once we resolve the issues that the FDA has. That's his responsibility, to protect the American people," Axelrod said. The Senate on December 15 rejected two amendments to the healthcare bill to allow drug re-importation. Allowing these cheaper drugs to be sold to Americans could cut revenues for the roughly $315 billion pharmaceutical industry, which strongly opposes the idea. @penny p: I totally agree about putting the muzzle on the big pharms, and also malpractice lawyers like your Dem John Edwars as well. Then WHY is 0bama still pushing GVT TAKEOVER of healthcare? Sounds like appeasement to me AND GVT TAKEOVER! Nonlibs are not fooled for a second! He can't have both! DUH! moreResolved Question: Does ABC News Have a Financial Stake in Obamacare?
Last June, as Newsbusters readers will remember, ABC allowed President Obama to pitch his health care proposal in a special edition of ABC's Primetime hosted by retiring World News anchor Charlie Gibson and (now incoming anchor) Diane Sawyer. Obama was given additional airtime to pitch his health care agenda that evening on Nightline. Conservatives didn't get equal time. Worse, ABC News even refused to allow the conservative group Conservatives for Patients Rights to purchase paid advertising to put out an alternative perspective. Immediately afterward, the National Center for Public Policy Research (full disclosure: which I work for) began a multi-month review of the commercials run on World News. We found something interesting. In the 98 broadcast days of ABC World News advertising logged by National Center Executive Director David Almasi and analyzed by Policy Analyst Matt Patterson, ABC's World News broadcast featured 1,102 commercials, 597 of which were placed by member companies of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) trade association, representing 54.17 percent of total commercials aired. PhRMA very aggressively supports President Obama's health care agenda. David Almasi doesn't think it's a coincidence. "It's clear that World News relies on the members of PhRMA to sponsor it," Almasi says. "Ford and Proctor and Gamble are reliable sponsors, but the overwhelming amount of paid ads were for drugs pushed by the members of this very powerful and very political trade association. Ad after ad on World News comes from members of the drug lobby group PhRMA. It's almost laughable how many ads they run each day. If they were to stop, it would seem doubtful the broadcasts could continue." Says Matt Patterson, who analyzed and wrote a report on the findings, "ABC News seems to have a significant financial stake in the success of ObamaCare. Should we be surprised that they hand over an hour to Obama to promote his plan, while shutting out opposing views?" "There was not one day in which the members of PhRMA were not major advertisers on World News," Almasi adds. "It's hard to believe that the producers of the program don't have this on their minds when they are selecting the issues they cover. CBS burned off the series Swingtown two summers ago because the network found advertisers weren't interested... NBC cancelled Southland before the second season even aired because of concerns the show... would be unacceptable to advertisers. The concerns of advertisers do drive content. With so many PhRMA members sponsoring World News, it would be hard not to think that people at the network are always mindful of who is paying their bills. PhRMA makes no bones about its support for ObamaCare, and PhRMA's member companies appear to be the lifeblood of ABC's flagship World News program." Patterson recalls something Newsbusters readers won't have forgotten: White House Communications Director Anita Dunn attacked the legitimacy of Fox News in October and White House Senior Advisor David Axelrod said of Fox's news programming, "it's really not news." Patterson notes that the White House has shown no similar concern for objectivity at ABC: "ABC appears willing to turn over large chunks of its news programming to a politician, if that politician is backed by companies representing more than half of their advertisements. And for the President, it seems it's OK for a news organization to support a point of view - so long as it's his." http://newsbusters.org/blogs/amy-ridenour/2009/12/18/abc-news-advertising-review-may-explain-why-conservatives-were-locked- Lord - Of course we need a better health care system. Besides the fact you totally dodged my original question, you're not telling me anything I nor most Americans already don't know. But we (65% of Americans) are smart enough to know we don't want government running health care, nor do we want the tremendous financial burden that is certainly to come with such an endeavour, which even without it we're still teetering on financial collaspe. Not to mention government has such a horrendous track record with ANYTHING it puts it's grubby hands on. AND the fact no one here wants to die while waiting for crucial health care like so many do in your esteemed developed countries you so much want to be like (Which if that's the case I'm sure Canada would love to take you in). The point is it's much more to this than your simple bad guy/good guy fantasy ("people who wants to kill americans"). Bottom line, if you want to have a debate about it please email me. I'd be more than happy to do so. But in the meantime, how about answering my question first: DOES ABC NEWS HAVE A FINANCIAL STAKE IN OBAMACARE? wdx2bb - "The President of the United States is always going to get extra air time because of his position." Seriously? They wouldn't do this for Bush and you know it. Plus, you have failed to point out any mistakes I've posted here. It's too easy to just dismiss something you don't agree with and call it biased. Perhaps it is, but as I said before, you fail to correct the record. You merely dodge my question entirely. So, since you cannot or will not correct anything I have here, and since you totally avoid my question altogether, is it safe to assume I have it right? I think so. Sorry you lose, but thanks for playing. moreResolved Question: Is Rahm Emanuel really the policy maker and decision maker while Obama is just a campaigning man child?
Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- When Pfizer Inc. Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Kindler saw that health-care legislation unveiled by House Democratic leaders in October threatened to squeeze drugmakers’ profits, he got on the phone with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. Kindler was upset that the House measure would require pharmaceutical companies to forgo $140 billion in revenue over 10 years, said a person familiar with the discussion. He wanted assurance from Emanuel that the White House would honor an agreement to limit the drugmakers’ cost to $80 billion. The deal held. While President Barack Obama has kept his distance from the legislative maneuvering over health care, his chief of staff has been nudging the process at critical points, corralling powerful interests and coaxing members of Congress, said lobbyists, labor leaders, lawmakers and congressional staff. Kindler and Emanuel declined to comment. “All of these machinations and activities that have taken place all year really have been orchestrated by him,” said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, a former Republican congressman from Illinois who is a close friend of Emanuel’s. “We wouldn’t be where we are in health care if it wasn’t for Rahm. PhRMA very aggressively supports President Obama's health care agenda. http://newsbusters.org/ moreResolved Question: Is Maldives sinking. Leader's dismal dives reveal shocking news.?
The Maldives are sinking according to news, where the leaders are shown signing treaties underwater (in diving suits). As of today, doctors came in floating clinics to visit the sinking shorelines in other poverty stricken areas of the world. The World Health Organization pleaded with the Ayatullah in the govt. of Iran, Tehran, not to remove the kidneys from young, healthy, poor men in thier country, even if they pay the men, since life is priceless, and religion must not rob them of it. The World Health Organization, consisting of doctors who are second in society, next to the priests, and are followed immediately in rank by engineers and then by teachers, also warned the world of impending pandemic of flu, prepared a course of action by July end, and gave us an orientation to deal with it, even preventing pharmaceutical values from dominating the clinical scene. What is it that prevents the engineers from following with the good work and taking up the task of saving the face of mankind in the sinking heritage of the planet. Surely, we cannot stop global warming today, so why do we not start building large structures on the Islands of Maldives so that when on May Day, when the island dives, there would be a partly submerged tribute that we could visit and remember the past. The structure would have only two conditions to fulfill, be built on a strong bedrock in the Maldives, before the dive, and be pyramidal in shape like the Egyptian pyramids, in order to face the water to building interface during the transition from above ground to underwater during the mal dives due to global warming and rise of sea level causing the island to dive underwater. There are more than fifteen million people living there now. They will have to be slowly absorbed back on to the mainland in India. There is a saying, he who hesitates is lost. "Tehran" which means hesitation, is not good. We must act now. moreResolved Question: Medical advertising question... Just wondering!!!?
A young woman approaches her physician with a complaint of chronic heartburn and requests "the same medicine that cute quarterback talks about on TV." What are some of the digestive diseases, disorders, surgeries, and diagnostic tests becoming more familiar to the public because of pharmaceutical company advertising, public information campaigns, news media attention, or new screening guidelines? moreResolved Question: Marijuana Rant okay.?
You people need to realize that the reason marijuana is illegal is because of economics, its because there are thousands of things marijuana would fix that pharmaceutical drugs right now are prescribed for, and they would cost the pharmaceutical company's billions and billions of dollars every year. If marijuana was made legal it would cost alcohol company's. When you see those pot commercials, those are sponsored by partnership for a Drug Free America, parnership for a drug free america is funded by alcohol companys. I mean its hilarious! Alcohol is a drug! But its a drug that is sanctioned. Do you ever meet someone that says " oh, i dont do drugs," meanwhile there smoking and got a beer in there hand? What are you doing right now douche!? I mean just because it has a label and a bar code, you can scan it, doesnt mean its not a drug. History lesson for the Uneducated about this topic: In 1935 they came out with a machine called the decorticator, and what a decorticator is, it allows you to economically and effectively process hemp fiber, becuase before they used to use slavery, and when slavery was abolished in 1865 they had no means of effectively producing this pulp that would be economically effective. So more people were using cotton, but the Declaration of Independence was printed on hemp, the parachute the George Bush senior used to parachute in WWII, that was made out of hemp. Hemp had huge industrial uses, it was just very difficult to process, and so they came out with this machine called the decorticator that really allowed them to really effectively produce it, and then this magazine called Popular Science came out with this cover that said "Hemp the new billion dollar product," and everyone was going to start using hemp, for paper, for textiles. And William Randolph Hurst who owned all these news papers and on top of that owned all these paper mills. It was gonna cost him millions of dollars to convert over to hemp, so instead he started printing stories in his paper about some new drug called "Marijuana," and marijuana wasnt even a slang term for cannabis. Marijuana was used to describe some Mexican wild Tobacco, completely unrelated. So they called it Marijuana and this is how they made it illegal, they said people were smoking it and blacks and mexicans were raping white women. So congress outlawed this new drug, not even knowing they were outlawing hemp, they had no idea. Which has been in use for thousands and thousands of years. And so then they came out with all these videos or movies, like Reefer Madness and propaganda films, and it was all just to get people to think that there is something wrong with plant, it was totally economic. No one has EVER died from pot in over 10,000 years of use. 400,000 people every year die, in this country alone, die from use of cigarettes. No one has ever died from pot, ever, but its still illegal. I mean your not gonna live forever, your gonna live and your gonna die and everybody is. Were temporary beings going through this life and, you know, who are you to tell other people what they can and cant do. And poeple you know say " oh pot makes you stupid, pot makes you a lazy." No! your a loser and your lazy. And if you smoke pot, your a pot smokin lazy loser. It doesnt mean pot makes you a loser, its you dude, blame it on yourself. Its like alcohol doesnt make you a drunk, you know i drink and then i stop drinkin and then i go get somethin to eat and i hangout and i wont drink for weeks, its crazy. You know its called moderation and you apply to every aspect of your life. You know if you want to get addicted, you can get addicted to gambling, you can get addicted to anything, scratch tickets, you know. Well people say you can abuse alcohol you can abuse pot. You can abuse Cheeseburgers to! You know? but i like cheeseburgers, it should be legal. All this stuff should be legal, were not children, were adults, but we got this one plant thats illegal and it grows everywhere. everyday i am faced with another terrible fact about my government that makes me hate them more and more. when people, when are we gonna take this world back. why do we have to do what they recommend? i for one am tired of it. i'm sick of war, i want peace, i'm sick of hate, i want love, i'm sick of f***ing big brother already. get smart people, smoke a joint and take a look at what a beautiful world we live in, and what we have made of it. Josh Anderson A plant that grows on the Earth, which makes people happy and has the ability to heal human/animal illnesses, should not be illegal. How stupid do anti-pot people have to be? "Oh its a drug that gets people high, its bad, illegal!" If weed wasn't illegal before you were born, and still wasn't, you would be smoking it right now. The Government lied to you, get a clue. If you believe the drugs that our Government allows to be sold is SAFE, you are naive and gullible. All drugs lead to other drugs. Why do they single marijuana out? I should think cigarettes lead to other drugs, even a cup of coffee might lead someone to want more of a kick, or alcohol... It's insane.... CAPITALIST (pertaining to a system for generating profit through privately owned corporations controlled by individuals' investments and vested interests as opposed to a system controlled and owned collectively by the state and its people) OLIGARCHY (rule by a select group of people, often the most wealthy) The people running the government include many business people whose interests are similar to running a business in which rule number one is always maximize profit. For a small example: "...it is true Donald Rumsfeld does indeed have stock holdings in Gilead Sciences, Inc., the California biotech company that developed Tamiflu (a product now manufactured and sold by the pharmaceutical giant Roche), and so he benefits financially from increases in that company's stock price. (Gilead receives a royalty from Roche equal to about 10% of sales.) Rumsfeld was a member of Gilead's board of directors between 1988 and 2001, and he was its chairman from 1997 until he joined President George W. Bush's cabinet as Secretary of Defense in 2001. According to federal financial disclosures filed by Rumsfeld, he has Gilead stock holdings valued at between $5 million and $25 million. The Secretary of Defense is not the only politically-connected person to have ties to Gilead. Former Secretary of State George Shultz, who is on Gilead's board, has sold more than $7 million worth of Gilead stock since the beginning of 2005. Another Gilead board member is the wife of former California governor Pete Wilson." (source: http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/tamiflu.asp ) Pharmaceuticals are currently a multi-billion dollar industry because of a form of government that allows officials to have conflicts of interest. Someone this morning told me even Ann Schuchat, head of the CDC, has investments in Tamiflu (though I'm still waiting for a source of info on this). You see news articles that keep promoting flu vaccines in which Ann Schuchat sounds like she's doing an advertsement. Doctors are prescribing Tamiflu like it's aspirin. The same people supporting their pharmaceutical investments are the people responsible for what eventually becomes public policy. They agreed in New Jersey (arguably Big Pharma's biggest brewing pot of manufacturing sites) to force flu vaccines this year on kids 6 months to 5 years old who want to attend day care or preschool. Who knows what they'll do next year given the CDC gave Novartis (one flu vaccine manufacturer) millions to build a new facility? Excerpts: Speeches and news reports can lead you to believe that proposed congressional legislation would tackle the problems of cost, access and quality. But that's not true. The various bills do deal with access by expanding Medicaid and mandating subsidized insurance at substantial cost—and thus addresses an important social goal. However, there are no provisions to substantively control the growth of costs or raise the quality of care. So the overall effort will fail to qualify as reform. In discussions with dozens of health-care leaders and economists, I find near unanimity of opinion that, whatever its shape, the final legislation that will emerge from Congress will markedly accelerate national health-care spending rather than restrain it. Likewise, nearly all agree that the legislation would do little or nothing to improve quality or change health-care's dysfunctional delivery system. Worse, currently proposed federal legislation would undermine any potential for real innovation in insurance and the provision of care. It would do so by overregulating the health-care system in the service of special interests such as insurance companies, hospitals, professional organizations and pharmaceutical companies, rather than the patients who should be our primary concern. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704431804574539581994054014.html Why aren't our politicians listening to the experts in the health care field, instead of creating a system that will be worse than what we already have (according to most experts)? moreResolved Question: Do u think BIG PHARMA is threatening to oppose the House healthcare bill because of backroom WH deal?

David Brennan, head of pharma giant AstraZeneca, told the Huffington Post that he was pleased with the White House and the Senate Finance Committee for standing by "the principles which we said are really important." The three parties entered into an agreement, before the health care debate heated up, that saw the pharmaceutical industry committing $80 billion to reform in exchange for various assurances -- the primary one being that the government would not use its purchasing power to negotiate cheaper prescription drug prices. There is nothing stopping the companies who make the H1N1 vaccine from paying government officials, such as those that run the federal Center for Disease Control, to tell journalists about some apparent "need" to get a flu vaccine. Just days ago, Anne Schuchat, who is head of one branch of the CDC, told the Washington Post, "Vaccine against flu is the best way to protect yourself . . . and those around you." (source: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/09/AR2009100903216.html?hpid=moreheadlines ). This is being presented as a fact when indeed it's only the opinion of an "expert" working for the government, and her opinion may be severly biased in support of the pharmaceutical industy. The article then goes on to explain that since only about 40% of Americans say they'll get the flu vaccine, something is seriously wrong--as if the important word hasn't gotten out yet to the public why it's so important you get vaccinated for influenza, especially H1N1. If you could just think critically when you read this you'd realize there is a never before seen campaign to get the public to buy something most people do not "need" (because even this article admits very briefly how most people with the flu recover just fine). When you say that there has been a mass campaign to sell 195 million vials of flu vaccine TWICE to the public (first the seasonal flu shot and then the H1N1 form) so that BILLIONS of dollars can be made in profits for the companies that manufacture the vaccines, they call you paranoid. Only one high risk group (with seriously weakened inmmune systems) "needs" to get a vaccine for protection. Nobody else "needs" a vaccine, including children. Your immune system does not "need" to have a flu vaccine the way that you need to have a polio vaccine. Your immune system can fight H1N1 just like all the other new flu strains detected in other seasons. Yet, the news media is encouraging panic with reports focused on "rising numbers" of those dead from H1N1 and with no basis for the kind of meaningful comparisons that would show the situation is any different than any other flu season. The head of the CDC talks about expecting more hospitalizations and deaths this year as if that doesn't happen every single year from the flu. Like other officials, she is playing up the need for a vaccine you don't necessarily need. Why then, do they call you "paranoid" when you suspect that government officials are advertising for the companies that make the flu vaccine? moreResolved Question: CBO says Gov Healthcare plan makes $81B but will they find the $400B in medicare cuts they promise to do plus-?

During 1998 and 1999, Kirk was also a registered lobbyist for Sullivan & Worcester, representing pharmaceutical companies Hoechst and Aventis. From 1983 until 1989, Kirk also took a leadership role in the Democratic National Committee. He served as the chairman of the DNC from 1985 until shortly after fellow Massachusetts Democrat Michael Dukakis lost the 1988 presidential election to Republican George H.W. Bush. Previously, Kirk had served as the DNC's treasurer. Kirk and his wife, Gail, have also contributed heavily to Democratic candidates and organizations. Is it the same as rationing care?
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/the_body_politics_dUqvqS9vLbTUpaLjjgLt6H "When health-reform efforts started, Democrats opted to buy off industry, which they saw as having killed the Clinton reform drive in the '90s. Every player got a handout -- but the handouts may not add up. Insurance companies, for example, were promised comparative-effectiveness research -- a government panel that would give them cover to say that treatment options just aren't worth the price. Rather than seem stingy, they can say, "Sorry, the government says this isn't effective." The pharmaceutical lobby, meanwhile, came on board in hopes of expanding the market for brand-name drugs. But comparative-effectiveness research might slash the sales of some of those same drugs -- especially the most profitable ones. The drug companies haven't jumped ship yet but they're fighting hard to nix the insurers' handout. Cranky Congress critters. Inter-industry feuding. What's left? Oh right: Voters. As Robert Goldberg of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest says, Democrats "forgot about the fact that health reform affects people, not just interest groups." On that front, Obama's prime-time speech before Congress was supposed to give health reform a bump. It did, but just for a few days. Heading into the weekend, the bump had vanished. And pollster Scott Rasmussen¹s survey of likely voters indicated that "just 42% now support the plan, matching the low first reached in August." Still, it's hard to blame voters. If Democrats can¹t find a plan they all like, why should the public? steve, currently if your ins co denies you coverage you can sue, or find out who pays better and get a different plan from them. Under Obamacare only 3 plans will exist and this comparative effectiveness standard will be uniform to all, and the committee making these determinations will by statute be immune from suit. We're going backwards here. Lynn, but what about when they say 'it isn't cost effective for people under this age or over that age but is for those in the middle' or 'not effective for heart problems in women but we'll pay for it with men' or whatever? When does it become rationing? moreVoting Question: Do you think Obama will try to backtrack on his BIG PHARMA deal as support for his "reform" plummets?
I mean he made the deal no doubt about it. (see Huffington link). The question is: As public support plummets for this garbage billl (more profits for BIG PHARMA and insurance industry) will he try to pretend he never tried to sell us out?? http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/08/the-phrma-deal-the-plot-thickens.html "In terms of savings for you as a Medicare recipient," President Obama told a town hall attendee yesterday, "the biggest (change) is on prescription drugs, because the prescription drug companies have already said that they would be willing to put up $80 billion in rebates for prescription drugs as part of a health care reform package." Then the president said, "Now, we may be able to get even more than that.” That sentence -- seemingly an aside -- could be significant. Because it may indicate that President Obama does not consider himself bound by an agreement upon which the pharmaceutical industry thinks the White House has signed off. As you may know, there have been some questions as to just what the White House agreed to in a deal Senate Democrats have cut with the pharmaceutical industry. (See our blog post from Saturday for a fuller background, with links.) Ken Johnson, senior Vice President of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA , tells ABC News of the president's comment that "clearly it creates a little teeth-gnashing" among PhRMA members, "but we're in this for the long hall and at end of the day remain convinced the Senate Finance Committee will produce a bipartisan bill that will serve as a blueprint for comprehensive health care reform." In other words, PhRMA remains convinced that Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chair of the Senate Finance Committee, will uphold the deal. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/18/baucus-bill-sticks-to-pha_n_290639.html moreResolved Question: Aren't Democrats the ones who claimed "special interests" (insurance/BIG PHARMA) were opposed to their 'reform?

This plan is nothing more than a continued Scam to force people to get insurance or fined which benefits scam artists like Baucus and the other corrupt politicians. This is from Wikepedia.Baucus has come under criticism for his ties to the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries while significant numbers of his own constituents lack health insurance and access to health care. The University of Montana Bureau of Business and Economic Research found that Montana has always ranked near the bottom in cross-state and national comparisons of health insurance coverage. [37] Despite this backdrop in his home state, Senator Baucus has been one of the biggest Senate beneficiaries of campaign contributions from the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries. From 2003 to 2008, Baucus received $3,973,485 from the health sector, including $852,813 from pharmaceutical companies, $851,141 from health professionals, $784,185 from the insurance industry and $465,750 from HMOs/health services, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.Do you like this plan?Or believe they really have peoples interests at heart? The only senators who received more campaign contributions from the health sector during the period from 2003 to 2008 than Senator Baucus were three major Presidential contenders, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain.[39] Baucus tops the list of recipients from business PACs. A 2006 study by Public Citizen found that between 1999 and 2005 Baucus, along with former Senate majority leader Bill Frist, took in the most special-interest money of any senator.[40] This plan will be payed for by diminishing care ,Fines and Taxes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Baucus http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090916/ap_on_go_co/us_health_care_overhaul moreResolved Question: What do you think of Sen. Prior to becoming a state senator, Mr. Obama worked as a lawyer for ACORN. ACORN, to repay their debt falsified at least 33,000 ballots in Pennsylvania and Ohio to help get Obama elected. Exposed by the AP, no law suits were ever file, nor were any charges. Since his election, they were the ones (hired by his administration) to conduct the census. As if that were not enough, two news reporters recently walked into an ACORN office, posing as a pimp and a prostitute asking for advice on tax evasion as well as child pornography. They were given the (helpful, law breaking) advice they'd requested. ACORN has since, fired those involved and has accused FOX News of maliciously targeting them. Obama uses strong arm, coercion tactics to get what he wants (the pharmaceutical companies have agreed to an $80,000,000,000 loss in profits (behind closed doors)). Ask yourself in what world this would ever happen. ACORN uses strong arm tactics to get banks and other lending institutions to agree to extremely high risk mortgage loans (during Obama employment years, they got Lehman Bro.s and Merrill Lynch to sign off on these loans creating the whole "Toxic Mortgage" scandal we are now seeing). moreResolved Question: What is his field of expertise or by what authority or field of knowledge does Glenn Beck base his opinions?
Glenn Beck is using the oldest trick in the book and people are falling for it. Be the first to accuse your rival of being WHAT YOU ARE (i.e. the antichrist - only half kidding) accuse your opponent of doing what YOU are doing or are ultimately responsible for (i.e. unrest at town halls). Do something, say keep people from affordable health care forever then accuse your opponent of allowing it to happen, then get behind the ill informed angry mob YOU created and continue to aim them toward your opponent who doesn't know what hit him. All this shlt about the Illuminati symbols around the UN last week was killing me "Hidden in plain sight" he said. Yes you are, I thought. Just goes to show you how smart his followers aren't. FOX News created the angry mobs and made the signs because it is a new station bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical lobby, big oil lobby, corporate polluters, corrupt politicians etc ad nauseum ...and they gathered them all together (easy, cause these jobs really are in jeopardy) and sent them out to picket! Then they cover the picketers, all the above and say "The people are angry!" The big oil big pharma, big corp, big insurance, big republicans living on EPA violation bribes all these years... yes these greedy thieves ARE angry... and they are out in front of the cameras. FOX throws a reporter in there...LOOK HOW UPSET PEOPLE ARE! Then a 100 more morons, armed with guns, get on the FOXYNEWS bandwagon...then the old band wagon lumbers out of the yard chased by a few hound dogs...I digress Unfortunately I don't think GOP has too much to worry about. Democrats are by nature all DIFFERENT aren't organized with any clear strategy and mostly naive so unable to fight a ploy like this. Democrats picking themselves up off the ground are like "What just hit me?" while people like GB, Dick Morris Hannity, Limbaugh and the rest of the Republican OLD GUARD hawks will make sure things stay exactly the same. Glenn Beck may have a big number of watchers, and a huge audience but add up their IQ's, change it to dollars and you couldn't buy groceries for four on it. moreMore Pharmaceutical News Results
