if for example in shadowboxing if you do plenty and i mean plenty of uppercuts and hooks, and do them correctly. will your body be any damaged. do uppercuts damage the body or make it stronger?

I'm 5'6" and 150 lbs and I've been secretly going to a boxing gym for two to three months now. My friend is about 5'10" or 5'11", 147 lbs, and has several inches more reach than I do. My friend has been boxing randomly for a few years and has been shadowboxing for just that long too, and still shadowboxes to this day. That being said, all he does is throw a bunch of jabs/hooks/uppercuts for a while and then takes a break. He has no footwork or technique, but knows how to fight somewhat. For example, when he gets into his southpaw stance, he purposely steps into my outside knowing that it causes awkwardness and difficulty of hitting him.
When I first started sparring/boxing, we practiced at a random parking lot. The first time I rushed in, he hit me really really hard with a right cross into my nose. He stood there laughing while my nose bled profusely, and ever since then I don't have the courage to rush in anymore, despite the fact that my footspeed is unquestionably faster than my friend's.
A few months of proper boxing training has passed and I start sparring officially next week, but I decided to act like a fool and jump into sparring my friend again. Per usual, I would wait for him to come attack me, and that he did.
He used a lot of wild swings, and when I saw an opening while he was in his southpaw stance I rushed in. When I saw his left straight coming, I immediately stepped back. I got hit in the eye/cheek region, but the step back allowed the impact to be absorbed. After that I just kept bouncing around and kept backing up each time he rushed in. He had so many openings, but I just didn't have the courage to slip his punches. My coaches told me that I need to work on my defense. I suppose they're right. I had my hand up (I use the iron wall style) the whole time. I just remembered, but I made the same mistake of not rolling into his hooks...

This chick and I have been shadowboxing around a relationship for a while..and it feels as if we are struggling for control..for example, I'll find myself not returning her calls because "I'll show her that she's not in control of me" she exhibits the same traits from time to time..telling me to ashow up at her house to go out but then makling me wait while she talks on the phone and then finishes getting ready..is it time to bail? keeping in mind I really do like the girl
