Resolved Question: Making a shadowbox for my father ; Retired USAF?
I am trying to make a shadow box for my father before he returns from his deployment. He is retired united states air force, and has been out for 10 years. I want this to be sort of a surprise welcome home present. I need to get a copy of his DD-214, but I am not sure how I can. Right now, my mother has POA, so could she sign the request form in his place? I have a copy of a Standard Form 180, the Military Record Request Form, can I as his son send this in? All I really need is the list of where he was stationed, his decorations and occupational badges. If anyone has any idea how I can do this, and still make it a surprise, please tell me. Thanks! @Susan that's what I thought to do, but apparently you have to do something different if the person who's 214 your looking for is still alive. moreResolved Question: Re-post: My dog poem?
A couple of weeks ago I asked a question about the beginning to a dog-related poem that I was writing ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmD5I_IjBXULoPv9R1oMXOLty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091008172313AAP5oSx ). Well, I have FINALLY finished it! I would like to know how you think it sounds. It is pretty long, and I apologize for that, but please try to read it all. Keedo I opened my eyes at two weeks to see, thousands of cages staring back at me. Piled high with urine and feces, the conditions were deplorable. Water dripped upon my head, the dawning of my life was so horrible. The stench in the room was quite disgusting. And for clean air I was truly lusting. For weeks this was my home, a 2x2 prison and nowhere else to go. I was scared, and I wondered, would this be the only world I would know? Then one day a person took me away. I hoped that everything would be okay. I was tossed in a box and through a small hole, saw I was places in a truck. Tripping all over each other, in the crate, puppies were running amok. Then the truck door opened, loud as thunder. Was I free? I held my breath in wonder. Plucking up the courage, I yelped playfully, hoping that they would pick me. It worked! I eagerly awaited, whatever my future may be. I was brought into a faintly lit room. Dunked in water, and given a quick groom. A woman then took me and put me on display while tossing me a toy. Many people came and went, but none noticed me quite as much as one boy. You eyes me and went to your family. And demanded that your parents buy me. At first they disagreed, but when you glared at them angrily they complied. They took me in the car, and off we went to the place I would now reside. You realized then I needed a name. After you pondered, Keedo I became. The first two weeks were delightful, we had become inseparable friends. You’d take me for fun trips in the woods, we’d sneak through all the twists and bends. I had thought our relationship was great, That is, until I met your best classmate. He thought I was too girly, being the silly, big fluff ball that I was. So then you started to ignore me, you were bitter and saw all my flaws. No longer did I have my fun comrade. I couldn’t help but to become so sad. I worriedly sought your attention, but you often took it the wrong way. My nipping and my accidents in the house, now I could no longer stay. I was promptly chained up to a large tree. Locked in the front yard with nothing to see. The ground was cold, the bushes thorny, and I was under attack by fleas. The chain was short, I could barely move, no longer was I ever at ease. It was here that you forgot you Keedo. And here that I became a mere Shadow. I grew older, my coat grew matted, I was thin; and became malnourished. My water was dingy and old, and I was forced to sleep where rats perished. I’d howl in loneliness, you hated it. Your father would come and beat me a bit. Those people who would walk by, with their chipper dogs, they’d say I was vicious. But in truth, I was begging for help, I never meant to seem malicious. Years passed, nothing changed, “Dog” was now my name. All your problems, now “the Dog” was to blame. All these things, you did so effortlessly, Do you remember me at all? You took no notice to my suffering, that is, until you got the call. Turns out you’d been reported for abuse. You’d get in trouble for every bruise. Your dad was in a rage, he had to find a way to get rid of “that Dog”. Grabbing his shotgun, he yanked me by the neck, and dragged me into the fog. I tripped and stumbled over many rocks. My life had reached a permanent road block. We stopped, and you father grasped my muzzle, and pointed his gun at my head. I started to shake, and I heard a loud bang, then I knew that I was dead. The fact I was free was so relieving. Even though I knew no one was grieving. No more did I have to live with you, lost and without your love. Then just as I was about to smile, I saw a light from above. It lifted me from my lifeless body. I never noticed I looked so shoddy. I drifted over the clouds, then came upon a sight too good to believe. Heaven was much more spectacular, than my mind could ever conceive. Thick, luscious grass and gentle rolling hills. Nowhere did I see any puppy mills. Dotted with daisies and tall maple trees, now I had a nice sight to see. The air was crisp and smelled like nectar, a breeze blew through my thick fur softly. Then out of thin air, an old man appeared. He was wise and gentle, with a long beard. God came up to me and opened His arms, giving me a warm, fuzzy hug. He ran His fingers through my newly-lush fur, now I was so very snug. Softly, he whispered into my furry ear, “Darling Keedo, my friend, you are safe here” moreResolved Question: can i make a deck out of these cards?

I am writing a story, and I want people's opionions...would you ever reaad this, and from what there is, would you keep reading it? I walked out of the club, my heart still pounding in time with the bass. Everyone around me had to yell to be heard, so the night air was polluted with noise. The breeze cooled the sweat the covered me from head to toe, and that dripped down my back and between my breasts. I followed the breeze into the dark alley, knowing that it was a stupid move. But it was like hypnosis, a trance I couldn’t break away from. I discovered a gap in a brick wall of an abandoned building, hidden from sight by a dumpster. Reaching out for it, some invisible force pushed me forward, and I fell in. Plunging downward for what seemed like an hour, screaming the whole way down, I landed on hard, cold cement. I pushed myself up with some effort and back onto my feet. Following the dark corridor, narrow with damp and cool cracked concrete walls, I found a heavy iron door, completely untouched by rust. Without a second thought, I walked through it. It swung tightly shut behind me and I rushed to get it back open, and it seemed like the dark, musty room was closing in on me. I saw something move behind me, and I whipped around, catching my ankle and falling to the ground. I was paralyzed with fear. I felt something move onto me, then another, and another. Then I sensed something crawling onto me. I looked around, and saw I was surrounded by snakes, spiders, and red fire ants. They crawled onto me, and covered my body, seeming to multiply by the second. I could no longer see my body in the moving masses. I tried to scream, but no sound came out. I thrashed around trying to shake them off. The movement just got them angrier. Hearing menacing laughter, my throat began to close and I had a harder time breathing with each jagged breath I took. Everything started to fade out before turning black. Jumping, I awoke, drenched in sweat. I tried to catch my breath as I patted myself down, making sure there were no marks from any of the creatures I had dreamt of. Assuring myself that I was fine, and it was only a dream, I glanced over at my laptop screen. 4:45 A.M. Standing up, still shaking, I made my way over to my desk where my laptop was setting at. I woke it up from the screen saver, which showed the date and time, and onto the page I had left it at when I fell asleep. I had been filling out a questionnaire, and the question I had just answered read “What are your worst fears?” In the box, I had written “ants, spiders, snakes, falling, being in tight spaces, being locked in, watching people I love die in front of me, fire, and a lot of blood”. I counted off how many had been in my dream. Six out of nine. But as I thought of my dream, I could still hear that evil laughter echoing inside my head. I added that to the list, and posted it before creeping down the stairs to the kitchen. I made myself a small banana split and ate it before heading back to bed. Sleeping on and off until six, I decided to give up and get dressed. I, realizing it was already sixty degrees, decided to go for a run. I slid into shorts and a tank top, tied my shoes, and made my way out the door. Without realizing it, I had run in the direction of the club in my dreams. Since I was already there, I decided to check out the gap in the wall. I cautiously made my way down the alley and tried to identify the correct dumpster. The farther back I moved, the more my hair stood on end. I found the last one, and recognized the graffiti painted on it. I moved behind it and felt for a hole, but there was none. One spot, however, drew my hands to it. When I touched the brick, the echoing laugher filled my head. It become too loud and too real to be only in my head after a few seconds. A shadow passed over me, and I jerked my hand away to try to locate it. After searching the alley and scanning it multiple times, I gave up and left. Thanks to all, any input is good. moreResolved Question: What is AFM-900-3 on DD-214?
My Grandfather served in the Air Force during Vietnam in Guam. On his dd-214 one award was listed twice, the AFM 900-3. I am in the Army, and was unable to conclude exactly what an AFM 900-3 was. I would like to make him a shadow box and get his medals correct. I appreciate the help very much. I don't believe the manual conclusion is correct. If you search AFM 900-3 and then do it "cached" you will see that this also appears on service records listed as an award. http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:7ZHWdSU7qrEJ:www.irvingmuseum.org/Vietnamwar.html+afm+900-3&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a moreResolved Question: How can i find out the medals and ribbons my husband has recieved so far in the air force?

Is it ok to make a shadow box if you are in AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps)? I want to make one when I get out of high school. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Information on 58th Weather Reconaissance Squadron at Kirtland Air Force Base.?
My father retired from Kirtland AFB in 1971 and was assigned to the 58th Weather Reconaissance Squadron. He passed away in April and I am looking to make a shadow box with some momentos in it from the Air Force. All of his decorations and such were lost at some point in the past. The Air Force is sending me some replacement medals, but I would also like to find any patches and occupational badges specific to this group. Thank You. moreResolved Question: How can I be absolutely silent?
I notice that I am always talking. I even talk to myself. Don't worry, I don't answer myself. So I'm not crazy or anything. [Right? Right.] Seriously. I don't think I could go a day without speaking. I don't even know how to begin. I want to fade into the shadows of life right now, but piping up in class doesn't help that. Oh, and by the way, don't give simple answers like "Just shut your mouth. Don't force air through your voice box." I'm not talking about how, scientifically. I'm asking how I can get away with not talking. How I can control it, maybe. But, as always, there are gonna be some rude answerers, and I probably won't get a straight answer. I don't have high expectations of Yahoo! Answers. Prove me wrong. It's not a problem in class or anything. I don't get in trouble for talking. I'm seventeen. I just sort of want to do an experiment and shut up for a day, maybe more. To get a reaction, maybe? To see what people do? I usually talk in chemistry and math because I'm the one helping people with problems or giving answers. I hate to say it like that, it makes me sound boastful. I usually talk with the teachers in class. My english teacher and I usually have a full conversation every day. So I wonder what it's like on the other side? To not talk hardly at all? What's even more amusing is that several people commented that I must have a problem with talking. I don't mind that I talk. I don't think I talk too much. I just want to see if I can go a whole day, maybe more! I'm astounded that one would mention going to the doctor or getting medication or taking a downer to stop talking. This is a social experiment, not a problem needing a solution. Thanks to those of you who actually read the question. You know, one of you, I forget the username, has a point. A lot of times I think my opinion isn't valued, and that no one cares to hear what I have to say. So what if I know the right answer? But that's a whole different set of issues that I'm not asking about here. I should've stated the beginning of my question differently. If I am performing a social experiment, to see how people react to a relatively talkative person, how might I go about shutting up? Thanks Katie, for the most part, this is a social experiment. For my own benefit as well. I want to see if people react to my lack of speech. If they ask if something's wrong. HEY! I'm answering my own question! I could keep tabs on who talks when I don't, what other's reactions are in regards to my silence, et cetera, to keep myself occupied. I could record the data from the experiment to keep my mind off talking. That works. It'd look a little odd walking around school with tape or duct tape on my mouth. And yes, I do type a lot. Typeractive, you might say. moreResolved Question: Security Forces Air Force Beret?
My husband was in the Air Force but is no longer in the service. He has a Security Forces Air Force beret. Over the years it has gotten old and tattered. My father died this year...a day before his b-day, he had served this wonderful country 30 years in the US Air Force, I myself follwed in his footsteps and spent 11 years in th USAF. At his funeral he was laid to rest by the Air Force Honor Guard and was given the 21-Gun Salute...I was able to obtain all the shells, however I wanted to something good for dad...like put them in a shadow-box or some kind of display. I had made him a display with all his ribbons and medals a few years back, and it was put on display at his funeral...it brought a lot of honor and well deserved respect to dad...family and friends were so proud...So, i now ask if anyone out there may have any ideas what I can do with his 21 shells...I would greatly appreciate it, I would like to present it to his wife (my mother) as soon as I complete it. Thanks so very much to anyone that has any ideas...Also, I would like to take this time to thank each and every soldier of the past, present and future. moreResolved Question: I need ideas on how to use the patches from old shirts...?
Myhubby is in he US Air Force. Every unit he has worked in has had the standard black t-shirt with the embroidered patch on the chest. Many of the shirts he has are from our time in Japan and are very special to him. Naturally, he has worn the shirts to shreds but he wants to keep them for the sentimental value. I want to try and do something for him as a gift, using the patches. The shirts are simply to worn to make into a quilt and I really can't sew. I was thinking of cutting the patches from the shirt and maybe doing a shadow box with them....or find a way to use them in scrapbooking. ANy ideas or suggestions would be welcome!
