Resolved Question: Do you think this short poem by Elvis Presley is worth $20,000?

Or do you think its cruel & tasteless & worth nothing but a grimace... London, March 29 (IANS) A short poem written by rock and roll legend Elvis Presley about a dead bird has sold at an auction for a staggering $20,000 (14,000 pounds). The King of Rock scrawled the rhyme on a piece of paper after apparently killing a robin that perched on his window ledge, reports contactmusic.com. The note, written on his own stationary, reads, 'As I awoke this morning when all sweet things are born, a robin perched on my window sill to greet the coming dawn. He sang his sweet song so sweetly and paused for a moment's lull, I gently raised the window and crushed his ******* skull'. The poem was part of an online sale of Elvis memorabilia, which closed March 26. Other items sold in the auction included a jumpsuit he wore at a concert at New York's Madison Square Garden, which went for $212,588.40 (148,663 pounds), and the typed lyrics for his song 'Young and Beautiful', which went under the hammer for $1,155.60 (791.50 pounds).  more

Resolved Question: Advice on getting a pet Cockatoo?

I'm considering getting a Cockatoo as I've always loved birds & think they make great pets - but I'd really love any advice from people who have experience owing them. I've read up a lot on how to care for them, etc. I've owned smaller birds in the past (cockatiels and budgies), but I've always wanted either a parrot or cockatoo. What I want to know is do you recommend keeping them in a cage for any period of time, and when? I've always had a problem with birds being in cages (My cockatiels were so easy to train & I always used to let them fly around most of the time, they were only in the cage at night but I let them out again first thing in the morning). I've seen some brilliant perches. I was thinking of just having a huge perch in the corner of the lounge for it to sit on - I love the thought of it being out all the time, being able to fly around, etc. Is it OK for them to be out all the time, or do you recommend putting them in a cage at night? Also, I've heard they can be quite possessive & only bond to one person, is that true? I just want to find out as much as possible about them and any advice you can give would be brilliant Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Do I have a overly bonded african grey?

My cag is almost 1 years old and he came to me when he was 12 weeks old. He used to love socializing when he was a baby, he would fly to different members of the family and perch on their shoulders. Then when I moved house and live on my own my cag starts to act aggressive to anyone that visits me. Well I guess he isn't so bad with women, he lets them scratch his head but thats as far as he would let them go. And men cannot get anywhere near him. He would fly off or come land on my shoulder if any men get too close to him. If anyone tried to get him off my shoulder he would bite very hard at the person or he would nip me on the cheeks! If someone approaches him while he is on my shoulder his body usually faces towards me as if he wants to strike me (I know in the wild birds tend to nip their mate if they think they are in danger). Do I have a overly bonded grey? People tell me he is very bonded to me, but surely if he was wouldnt he let me touch his wings etc? (because he doesnt let me yet) and isnt he too young to bond with me? also i like to add he hasnt regurgitated on me or anything and does not let me pet him on anywhere but the feet and his head. Does he see me as a mate or is he still too young?  more

Resolved Question: My budgie is really sick he can't fly or walk, keeps falling off perch. Is there a free avian vet in London?

Hi, I have two pet budgies, a male and a female. The male budgie has been really sick for about a week. He can't walk properly, he loses his balance when he walks. And he keeps falling off his perches in the cage so I had to put the perches really low so he doesn't have a bad fall. He can't fly either, he's recently lost one of his tail feathers, it fell off on it's own, he's been moulting. His wings are really low as well, and all he does is sleep all day and night, but he wakes up every two hours to eat and drink. He's still eating and drinking fine. I was wondering if the budgie is really sick or is this because he lost his tail feather? if he really is sick, does anyone know of a free or cheap avian vet (bird vet) in London? I keep begging my mum to take him to a vet but she says she cant pay £200 for a bird :( Hi, I have two pet budgies, a male and a female. The male budgie has been really sick for about a week. Does anyone know an AVIAN VET (BIRD VET) in London who gives free or cheap treatment? Please, this is really important the budgie is really sick.  more

Resolved Question: Have you had experience with breeding baby finches? I would like some advice?

I have an aviary about 10` by 6` and a couple of the pairs have nested. One pairs chicks are fledging and flying about now but when they go near any of the adults that are not their parents they get pecked at quite aggressively. There were 12 birds before they started nesting. I`ve tried to make it as natural an environment as possible with lots of branches to perch on and baskets hanging from the roof and boxes all over. I appreciate it`s probably natural behaviour and the most aggressive bird has chicks of his own in a nest but i don`t like to see the babies getting bullied. Any ideas?  more

Resolved Question: can i keep a male rosella on its own with other birds?

i have an avairy that is around 7ft long 6 ft tall and 2 ft wide it is in a shelterd spot and i am going to put up willow branches for perches,a few toys,a few nest boxes for shelter 2 cockatiel boxes and a shallow bird bath.I have seen a very nice male rosella at my local pet shop in a small cage with some cockatiels they seem to get along ok.i would like to know if he would mix ok with the cokatiels if i put him and two male cockatiels in the avairy? i would also like to know if i could have a trio of quail on the floor they would have their own house to sleep in on the floor and hiding areas on the floor? also could i also house two pairs of zebra finches all males and a pair of male budgies in with them or would this be pushing it? they would also have budgie and finch boxes.i know it sounds like a lot of birds but to look at the aviary is big and with all the birds being male they should have no females to fall out over. any advice would be great many thanks arthur parkinson  more

Resolved Question: what makes your husband stand out from the crowd?

Three girls who were friends in college get together after about 15 years for lunch. Sipping cocktails and comparing notes on how kind life has - or hasn't - been to them. 1 - "My husband is a diamond trader - spends most of his time in Amsterdam - he gave me this (shows diamond solitaire bigger than her own fist) on our last anniversary" 2 - "My husband is an Auto Dealer - you see that Pink Jaguar parked accross the street? It's mine. The red one right behind it is my Maid's". 3 - "My husband is not rich - he breeds cage-birds. But when he's 'aroused', fifteen canaries can perch side-by-side on his manhood". A few Manhattans later, the truth comes out: 1 "This diamond? it's paste" 2 "The Pink jag is mine, but it's older than I am and we're still paying installments on it" 3 " That fifteenth canary - he has to stand on one leg" ;) A  more
