Open Question: African Grey Parrot Behavioural problems?
Okay, we bought an agp, he is around 7-10 years old. We've had him for about 2 months now. But, we have noticed he has some awful behavioural problems? One, he paces back and fourth on one of his perches, then runs towards the bars and snaps at it very aggressively, whenever offering him food he bites and pulls whoever feeding him's finger towards the cage, even if we make no reaction and ignore him afterwards he continues to do so, so we have stopped hand feeding him, whenever you go near the cage he attacks the front of the cage, and bites our clothes/hands. Yet, when we talk to him he is happy to talk back we have taught him a few words, and he always says thank you when given food, but is very aggressive. He also hates having new things in his cage, he cowars and will not touch them. He has plenty of toys and food and water in the cage for him at all times, so he is not bored, and when we offer him to come out he backs into the corner, I don't think he had any toys, or much interacction with the owners before, but not sure... Before people get snooty I know they don't talk, Mine have been good at hunting but generally dumb when it comes to reading and writing. However, cats certainly seem to make more squawks and meows as they grow older. Are they copying us in the same way that a parrot does? Hi, I'm really interested in buying a parrot of some sort, but I'm not sure what i could go for. I don't want a little cockatiel or anything near that small, I'd like something the size of maybe a 'jenday conure' or bigger. I have a house mate who has been with me for about 3 months at 1st all was good, the last 6 weeks things have changed and i dont know what to do so any help or advice would be appreciated. I got a lodger as im wanting to move house and the extra money would be useful had 2 very good references from this housemate so accepted him. For the last 6 weeks he has been so drunk every day (he doesnt work) by the time i get home at 3 the house smells of alcohol and hes usually in bed (after hes obviously drank between 4 - 8 cans of lager), whaen he wakes up usually around 6ish he goes straight on to the red wine by the 2nd bottle hes usually very drunk, slurring his words struggling to stand and cant hold a conversation. Its really bothering me - dont get me wrong im not tetotal i do like a drink but not every night and the smell of constant stale alcohol is really getting to me, ive got up in the morning to find glasses broken red wine onder the sofa etc etc. Do i have a right to bring up his drinking and ask him to calm down as its my house - obviously he is paying me for the rent but hes on a contract for 12 months i accepted him through what seemed good reliable references and now dread coming home and dread the conversations that he tries to hold later on at night. Hes very nearly let my parrot out of the door cause he forgot to close it. This is not how i expected a housemate to be he never cleans talk on the phone and get pi**ed.
