Resolved Question: Nerveous about cage for quaker?

I would like to purchase a quaker parrot. either a baby or there is this one about 9 months old. I was looking at this cage because it seemed pretty big and was a starter kit. I have seen this cage at a pet store but would like to know if the cage was big enough to keep the quaker in it most of the day except for about 3-4 hours. There will be a few toys and perches! i will be playing with him for the 3-4 hours he isn't in the cage and when he is in the cage i will make it a loving environment he will love to be in. I will still talk to him and watch him while he is in the cage. I do go to school so that is why i was wondering if this cage was big enough. We don't want the bird to be flying around the house because we don't want him to get hurt or possibly killed (if he accidentally flies into our ceiling fans or something). When he is out of his cage, my door will be shut, the windows will be closed, and the fan will be off. I don't want to clip his wings because i find that a little cruel and i never have a window open. the link is below and i would love for someone to help! Oh!!! i have done plenty of research and know a lot about this species of bird and i also know a lot about their diet. If you could also answer some of the questions i posted above and will be writing down lower it will be greatly appreciated! Questions: Do you think this cage will be easy to clean? Do you think it will be easy to get my bird in and out comfortably (using step up and step down command)? Do you think this cage is big enough (asked in the above passage) Link to cage: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754292&lmdn=Product+Type please help me!!! sorry i spelt nervous wrong a little tired from all the research :)  more

Resolved Question: how do you get your parrot used to having their wings clipped?

i am 15 and i want to get a quaker parrot i have wanted one for 8 years and i have done all my research and i have had other birds before the first one i had a dog got it,then the vet killed my second one gave it too much knock out gas it wasn't her felt, she felt bad and gave me a new one and it had ate metal. So i finally want to get the one that i have wanted ever since i was little.I want to know how i can train the quaker parrot to let me cut it's wings, like it wont fidget, move,or jerk away i don't want to accidentally cut my bird with the scissors. So how did you get your parrot used to getting it's wings clipped? or biteing  more

Voting Question: Parrot--broken beak & clipped wings?

My 5 year old quaker parrot flew into a window today and broke off about 1/2 of his upper mandible. I took him to the vet to check everything over, and we got some pain meds and antibiotic. While I was there, I also decided to have his wings clipped for the first time in about 3 years. He's obviously traumatized from this experience and doesn't understand why he can't fly--and he keeps trying to fly--I'm closely monitoring this, helping him get used to this new life he has. He's also nibbling on a soft oats/pellets/vegetable mix, but I'm not really sure how much he's actually eating--the pointy part of his beak is gone, so he can't really tear into his food anymore. So, 2 questions--hoping someone can share their experience with one or both of these massive lifestyle changes for my bird (and self). For anyone who's clipped the wings of a long-time free flighted bird--how long did it take for your bird to adapt to the changes? What was the transition period like? For anyone who has experience with a broken beak--the vet said it looks like it will grow back, but I didn't think to ask how long it might take--about 1/2 his upper beak is missing. Any estimates on how long this might take? Any suggestions on how to monitor food intake besides just paying attention to his playing/energy level? Thanks! I'd rather not hear suggestions about keeping my bird clipped for safety, etc...I prefer free-flighted birds--and that will remain my personal choice. I'm just looking for similar stories to compare with to help get through this stinky situation. Thanks.  more

Resolved Question: Taming my Indian Ringneck?

Hello, I bought a male sky blue Indian Ringneck parrot 3 days ago from a breeder, and named him Zephyr. He is still very young, I'm not sure exactly how many weeks/months old he is. His wings were already clipped when I got him (only one wing). I know it's only been 3 days, but he is very timid, he is always trying to get as far away from me as possible unless I have food in my hand. He will sit on my finger if I put it under his chest, but doesn't seem like he wants too, and he will walk up my arm, onto my shoulder and then climb up my hair until he is on my head, but I think he does it because he doesn't want to be anywhere near my hands. If I put my hands in his cage he does everything he can to get away from them, but outside of his cage he isn't as bad, he will walk away but he doesn't flap about like he does inside the cage. He doesn't seem to mind me giving him kisses on the beak, he will sometimes kiss back. Also I have never heard him chirp, whistle or make any loud sound and I've heard they are supposed to be very noisy birds, does this mean he is scared? If I hold him to my ear sometimes I hear him making a really soft sound that sounds like a whimpering dog, does that mean he is sad? So far he loves broccoli, carrot, sugar snap peas and mixed bird seeds. He has eaten this every day except for the broccoli which he first tried today, should I be giving him any of these only as treats when he needs to be rewarded or is it okay for him to eat these and other fruits and veg every day? Also I have read that they can eat chicken and boiled eggs... I don't eat meat, and rarely have any in my house, is it necessary for him to do so or can he be healthy without it? And one last question, lol sorry this has gone on for ages, he has a very short tail, and it looks a bit rough on the ends like some other bird had bitten it off. It seems like he doesn't have very good balance because of this. Is his tail short because he is a baby and it hasn't grown long yet? Or is it more likely that it was bitten off by one of the breeders other birds, and could that contribute to why he is so scared all the time?  more

Resolved Question: Cats: Declawing Vs. Keeping claws clipped?

I have a new cat and, like every cat, she likes to use her claws for everything. she is going to start using the furniture as her scratching posts sooner or later, and i want to prevent her damaging the furniture. I am really opposed to declawing a cat; i feel that it would be like removing a dog's nose or a parrot's beak; animals are born with special attributes that they rely on and i think it is very unfair to take them away. Anyways, i am totally willing to do what it takes to keep my kitty from tearing up the house, but i need to know how. Will simply trimming the nails be a good answer to the problem?  more

Resolved Question: Flighted Blue Headed Pionus Parrot.?

I normally keep him clipped. But for the last 2 or 3 months he has been flighted and I love him flying to me to hang out or watching him fly around the house and back to his cage. Should I clip his wings and if so why? Does anyone else have a flighted bird and do they have a problem with keeping it flighted?  more

Resolved Question: My parrot wants to fly away!?

Help me please.. I have a parrot shes probably about 4-5 months old. When she was younger (about a month) we used to let her out her cage often but then she started trying to fly so we stopped it and left her in her cage until we had her wings clipped. After that we let her out only to discover she could still fly very well. Now I don't want to let her out because I'm scared she'll fly away or into something and hurt herself. I've seen so many parrots that just sit on their perches and don't move. How do I train her to be like that??? Any advice or input would be much appreciated! :) Oh by the way its an african grey  more

Resolved Question: Can you point out the correct and incorrect statements in this list?

My friend wrote this and I'm not sure how true it all is... "1. Cat declawing is wrong. The vet chops off their claws and the first joint. The cats have pain in their feet for the rest of their lives. You take away their natural defenses, and they sometimes even scratch for stress relief or entertainment. They test painkillers on declawed cats 2 c if they work. One cat even died from declawing. The vet refused 2 admit it, tho. 44% of vets don't even use painkillers when they chop off the joints. It's like if your young child misbehaves, you chop off the ends of their fingers. Most vets will not perform it on cats more than 1 year, but they'll do it when they're young as 3 months, which can mess up their paws forever. 2. Declawing is not only for cats. They do it to bears, big cats, and even dogs. 3. There is as special procedure for dogs. It's called debarking. They remove some tissues in their throats so their bark is not as loud. After that their bark is practically a whisper. 4. Clipping bird's wings is cruel as well. They can never fly again. If they are outside, they are likely to die by being eaten by predators. Since they can't fly away, they will be slain. 5. Keeping amazon parrots and macaws as pets is mean 2. They are taken away from their homes, and are never allowed to return." Thankss!  more

Resolved Question: A poem about parrots that escaped from the pet store?

The cages broke, the birds ran free, from the pet store to the beach. Now with sorrow, once with glee, plucking feathers with their beaks. Parrots baking in the sun, with short legs, its hard to run. On the sand, so hot and dry, they scurry slow and let out cries. Squawking, mocking, sizzling skillet, searching for a grain of millet. With clipped wings, flight undone, by other birds, they are shunned. Once so graceful, once so pure, for their problems there is no cure. Four-toed-feet slowly burning, small ant bites can be unnerving. For relief, they are yearning, their empty stomachs softly churning. Ants climb up, to take a bite, parrots put up little fight. Until one parrot had a thought, that could be the money shot. With desperation, they go to shore, the sea the bull thats soon to gore. Marionettes, with no sword are subject to a death, no morn. Like a diver deprived of air, they find again, more despair. Their feet cool down, in comes a sound, impending doom, they're soon to drown. The ants float up, confused and tired, the war was over, no shots were fired. Waves crash the shore, twelve or more, will be picked off, like cold sores. They loose control, in slow, sad, stages, get swept out to sea, in the nautical rages. At first they float, rainbows on water, the cold salty sea brings about slaughter. They tumble and turn, like a shirt in the dryer, tie-dyed and bright, but no one admires. Kids on the beach point and stare, but for their lives, no one cares. They gargle and choke, bloat and bubble, afloat by the waves of trouble. With black ink, they loose their luster, with ten squids who were quite flustered. Right before the birds float, perished, they became crows, no colors cherished. Black and greasy, they soon find, that the world outside is not so kind.  more

Resolved Question: Is this animal abuse?

My brother, who is almost seventeen, has a small parrot who he is crazy about. However, he is too lazy to clean its cage and hasn't in months. The bird is literally living in piles of its own poop. Also, the birds water is almost always dirty. He takes the bird out a lot but often doesn't watch it, he just lets it fly around as he watches TV or uses the computer. My mother and I have a very hard time dealing with the mess that the animal leaves behind. We both agree that the bird should at least have his wings clipped so that he can't fly around freely. I think it would be a good idea if we give the parrot to a better home that will take care of him better and my parents and I have discussed this idea. Does how my brother treats his pet count as animal abuse? How can I either convince my brother to start taking care of the bird or give it to a better home? Anytime me or any other family member mentions the situation my brother gets very angry violent and emotional. He says that the way he treats the bird is fine and that we are just turning against him.  more

Resolved Question: i got some calico macaw questions?

i might be getting a calico macaw for x-mas but i don't know what to do when and how. well i kept a other kind of small and green parrot before and a some budgies and even my dad used to keep birds so i have some exp. i've seen some photos of it on google and most of them had a picture of this other blue and gold macaw next to it. what is the meaning of that? here are some other questions i have: how many months old do they have to be to be able to talk? if i get a taimed one and clip its winges at the vet, can i get a stand for it instead? cause i think its cruel to keep them in cages.you aggree? what do i exactly have to do after i buy it? what are the most easiest words that it will learn? what could i use as a treat besides pistachio's? all answers will be appreciated! oh and i wanted to know if there are any other inexpensive parrots that will easily be tamed and talk very easily too.  more

Resolved Question: How do I gain my parrots trust again?

OK, so I got a bird when I was 15 years old. We had a very good relationship. I played with her everyday pretty much all the time she was with me or in the same room with me. She sat on her perch eating her treats when I ate dinner, she watched TV with me, she even took showers with me! lol. Well, when I turned 18, I decided I wanted to go to college...No biggie. I lived at home for the first two years. I was then accepted to a University and had to leave home when I was 20. I am not 22 and will be graduating in 2 semesters. I come home every weekend now and my bird HATES me. I understand she is probably mad that I left her and now she does not trust me anymore. I am getting married when I graduate and would like to take her with me to my new home vs. leaving her with my parents. (even though she does love my mom...but she is my bird). She also hates my fiance. Acts very vicious towards him. Where do I start? I want to rebuild our relationship but have no idea how. She will not step up, she will not let me pet her. She only steps up to me if she is on my mothers hand first. She is very bossy (She is a blue crown conure, some of the attitude is in their nature), and does not like water which I thought was a bit unusual. She needs to take a bath to keep her oily and her feathers healthy. Now she is just unruly when I try to handle her for anything. Where do I start to even fix this? Her wings are not clipped...does this have something to do with her feelings so in charge? **I am NOW 20. (I accidently put NOT)  more

Resolved Question: Parrot talks poor diet and training help for Yellow Naped Amazon?

Hello, I recently adopted a Yellow Naped Amazon from a woman that needed to move and they would not allow pets where she was moving to. She bought him/her about 10 years ago and she was really unsure of how old he was when she got him/her. Ralph is most likely 11-15 years old if i were to guess. She never had the bird DNA sexed so I will refer to the bird as Ralph instead of him or her. Here is my question or questions. She was feeding him Hartz diet (mainly all seeds and nuts in this Hartz diet) she also gave him lots of shelled peanuts because Ralph loves them and I read that the shell can carry a mold and could cause illness or at least it used to happen years ago. I give him human grade unsalted shell peanuts and I hope that I can continue to do this sometimes as a treat because he does love to get them out of the shell and eat them. I only have Ralph now for 4 days and I love him already. My first concern for Ralph is for his health for the rest of his life and then next would be to teach him to be more affectionate and to be able to be handled easier. I have started target (clicker) training but since his whole diet consists of everything that he loves and should have been given mainly as treats, should I switch Ralph to a pelleted diet now and if so which pellet? He is stubborn when it comes to his food and wants what he wants, so will he eventually get used to the pellet diet or will he near starve himself before he realizes he has to eat it. It would be a whole lot easier for me to train him if I can give him what he likes (nuts and dried papaya) as a treat during the training process. Ralph is very intelligent and he is still adjusting to his new home with us, he is already starting to talk again, he talked for his previous owner alot. He has a decent vocabulary already and I would like to enlarge his vocabulary but I want to earn his trust. I had to overcome my fear of him first because the woman I bought him from said he bites, I have already overcome this fear with him because he does not bite as hard as he could if he wanted to, so now I started the training process. I have found that Ralph is very hard to work with while on the top of his cage or while in his cage, what can I do about this? Should I get a parrot stand, do you feel that this would be beneficial to my training since he could not run away as easy on the stand. Ralph's wings are clipped just enough that he can't fly but he can still jump off his cage onto a nearby bed when I try to get him to Step Up. Ralph will then immediately go from the bed to my arm and then to my shoulder probably just hoping for an easy return to his cage. My next question is this, Should I be letting him on my shoulder or should I be keeping him on my forearm and if so this will be very hard to accomplish since he was allowed on the previous owners shoulder? Is there truth to the bird dominating you if he is above you in a sense? Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated, I want to do the right things for all of us so that we all live a long and happy life together. Thank you very much and I look forward to your reply. Tom  more

Resolved Question: Taming my Quaker parrot?

I have a Quaker Parrot that I got a few months ago. His name is Shamrock. Shamrock was given to me a few months ago from another family. He loves attention, loves to play, and loves to talk to me. He will even "lick" my face and pull my hair when I let him. The only problem is, is that he doesn't like hands/fingers. When I try to pet him, he immediately attacks and bites. He will come up to my face and sometimes he'll bite my nose, but that's rarely. But as soon as he sees a hand he gets aggressive. There is some trust between us, but I guess not enough. How can I get him to feel safer with me? We've had his wings clipped, and he plays outside of his cage for hours at a time. Sometimes he walks down and off of his cage. Only 3 or four times he had "Stepped Up" onto my finger when he felt insecure "away from his cage" and even when I did get him to step up, he would be unsure about it and step off very quickly. Now when he gets on the floor he runs when he sees hands. He'll approach you, but will absolutely not let you pick him up. He's also gotten on top of my head and on my shoulder, before. So he definitely trusts me, but to an extent. Are there any special exercises or training "techniques" I can do with him? I really want to be able to hold and pet him. Thanks a ton for any and all serious answers!  more

Kids on the beach point and stare, but for their lives, no one cares. They choke and gargle, quite a marvel, they made it as long as they did. With black ink, they loose their luster, with ten squids who were quite flustered. Shortly before the birds float, perished, they became crows, no colors cherished. Black and greasy, they soon find, that the world outside is not so kind. Its called "The Piercing Shock of Muffled Squacks"  more

I think a cockatiel or a cockatoo. Do I have to buy a baby bird or I can just buy a grown up. Most of the parrot here aren't tamed and will just fly away if you let the out of the cage.Do I need to clip his wings? . I need your advice. Thank you. Oh yeah I know how to build trust once the bird stands still. I just need to know how to stop him from biting me and how to keep him out of the cage without him flying away. Resolved Question: Buying a Quaker Parrot?

so i went to the pet store and i seen some quaker parrots that were cool, i asked the guy which he gave really awsome info, they are 4 birds in a cage and the cage is a decent size cage aswell, and they are like Almost a year old, and they were not Hand raised and he said the owner of them gave them to the pet store... What i wanted to know is.. He or she would still bond and be a awsome birdy right? They seem very healthy and are Clipped and Alert, and they make all kind of whitles and noises.. i dont know much about Quaker parrots im more of a african grey// macaw// amazon person who knows much about them.. i think with some minor work and interaction 8-9 hours a day will make him fill better and bond.. Thanks.. Thanks, im not worried about him being hand raised to much because all birds will need work, theres really no such thing as a "Hand raised bird" as he will not know your hand right away anyways :P Thanks!  more

Voting Question: I want too bond with my new male parakeet & treat him tricks?

I recently bought two parakeets, one purple female and a yellow male, I bought them friday, aug 7, for my moms late birthday present, but I bought myself one too, so We've had them for abt 4 days now, & I've been doing ah lot of research abt them, I choose the yellow male as mine & my mom choose the purple female as hers. I've read that its normally the males that talk, I wanna bond with him but he's still scared of me, if he wasn't in the same cage as the female, he'd be calmier when I walk past or near the cage but since she's in there with him, she's more scared then he is, so since she freaks out hell freak out too, im thinking abt getting him his own cage and putting him in my room so we can bond more, I also want too teach him too talk but im going too wait alil later for that, I also wanna teach him tricks like fetch and other tricks, how do I go abt teaching him that and other tricks, I also need too get his wings clipped when I get ready too hand train him. Also, I don't know how old they are, I got them from ah pet store, & I want ah bond with him like you see those pet shop ppl and there parrots on them or how they can fly away but they stay on the owner, I've always wanted ah bird like that(:, any tips? Is there something im missing, feel free too give advise.  more

Resolved Question: Am I ready for my first bird? (Senegal Parrot)?

I'm thirteen years old, but I am capable of taking care of animals; I have five Leopard geckos, and always paid for their vet bills/food/etc. I know the size cage I need, the attention they need, how expensive vet bills are. I have more patience than my mother does(which doesn't say much). I know how long they live, and I'm prepared for that. Can you please tell me if I'm missing anything? Responsibilities: Feeding every day Watering every day Bathing a few times a week Attention a few hours a day(about four, much more on the weekends) Clipping the wings every two or three months Clipping the toenails Bringing to the vet's for a beak trimming Training Switching out the toys every week or so What is needed for the cage: Happy hut(?) Various perches Food/water bowls Newspaper A ton of toys Am I missing anything, and do you think I'm ready for a bird? Thanks for reading xD Why are they such a challenge? I know all the responsibilities that come with a Senegal.  more

Resolved Question: Very aggressive parrot...please help!?

I just bought an amazon parrot from a lady who wasn't able to spend time with him...he is 8 years old and is very aggressive...he tries to bite me and yells very angry when I or someone else gets near his cage, even when we feed him and talk nice to him, he is very territorial I guess...he doesn't have his wings clipped and I allowed him to get in an out of his cage (to make him feel more comfortable) but he flew last time when someone rang the door bell...he is back in his cage but he won't allow me to close it, he is always near the door ready to attack...I would like to have his wings clipped but I won't dare to do it myself...My question is, can a second-hand parrot be tame eventually? I find it difficult because he got a very very bad temper and he is not fearful, he is aggressive...Also, how can I get his wings clipped? (for his safety and our safety too)? I am not really concerned about him learning new words..I just want him to stop being mean...I love him and I want him to be nice to me and my family...Thanks  more

Resolved Question: What can I do to help bonding with my parrot?

I have a yellow naped Amazon, Luciano, (here's a pic http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s102/kleotide/p2220004s.jpg ). He is 19 years old and he has been with us for the past two 1/2 years. When we first got him from a rescue parrot shop he was cage bond, apparently the owner (of the shop) had not been able to get him to leave his cage for the 3 years she had him. So when I walked had him step up, took him out of his cage she begged me to take him home. Despite that it has taken us a while to get him used to being away from his cage. I am willing to take things at his own pace, but I am still unable to touch him anywhere but on his head, and I would love to be able to clip his toe nails. The place we go to now is good, but he's always in a horrid mood for about a week after wards. (They have to wrap him up in a towel as he will only allow my husband and me to interact with him on any physical level) Does anyone have any tips on things I can do to increase the bond between us? THanks for the input. His wings are clipped, as we like to go on walks together.. And Not having them clipped would be a very bad idea. :)  more

Resolved Question: I'm in love with my childhood friend?

I don't want to sound like the bad seed, but her boyfriend is incredibly controlling, and she reminds me of an African grey parrot with it's wings clipped. She was so awesome, free-spirited, obnoxious and out there, and now all I see is a reminiscent carcass of who she used to be, and it pains me to see her like this, but then again, I can't help but be happy for her, as she is exuberant with her boyfriend. I'm in love with her, there isn't any question. We've been friends since we were in third grade, and became best friends in grade eight up until grade ten, where she was sent to rehab across the country for drug and alcohol abuse. I missed her so much, and to some degree, I still do, because we aren't as close as we once were. We still hang out, she invites me to her cabin up at this lake, and to parties, and to hang out once every while, and no it's just so much harder because I realize i'm in love with her. Anyways, she is in a deep-committed relationship right now, and to be honest, I'm really happy for her, she seems to be in the right place and I've never seen her this ecstatic about anybody before, but I can't say I haven't felt jealous the odd time. Anyways, I have to get over these feelings about her, I want to be friends with her like I used to, but these feelings are making things a lot more awkward and are rendering my ability to progress our friendship. She doesn't know, so does anybody have any pointers on how to let these feelings go?  more

Hi. I have an african grey that was fully weaned by my self over a year ago. the thing is that his wings were clipped too short about 8 months ago and they were not gorwing so under some wrong advice i was told to individually pluck his flight feathers out so his wings will regrow and he will gain his flight back. regretfully i did this about 2 months ago and now his flight wings have grown back. but the thing is untill recently he was fine with me and his usual self even after his wings were painfully plucked out untill now that his wings have grown. unexpectedly out of the blue, he seems afraid of me now and will not go anywhere close to me. i need to know what to do. i must point out that i regret what i did, so pls dont reply telling me how stupid i was, just advice on what to do now. many thanks  more

Resolved Question: will my parrot die????????

Is my Cockatiel going to DIE? so yesterday I purchased a handfed baby cockateil from a local petstore that I trust... she said that he is on one hand feeding a day. Im supposed to give him 10 mls of this formula called exact. thats what she uses and im also supposed to leave parakeet food and millet for him. Well today I tried giving him his feeding and he took about 2 mls and quit. He's been eating his feed and sits over the bowl for hours. He has all his feathers and flys A LOT. I took him back to the petstore to see why he wouldn't take food from me. The woman who raises him tried to feed him with my formula and said he wasnt hungary.she said that my mixture is the correct consistency. she felt his crop and said that he isnt full but definantly has a lil somthing in there. she also clipped his wings for me because I told her about my mom being paranoyed that he would fly away...She said to try later in the evening,,,, so I tried again at 5 with no luck and then at 9 with no luck! he eats millet and his parakeet food and i can tell because he leaves the shells in his food..... does this mean he is weaned?????? He chirps like a regular bird but sometimes makes his baby noises... I have yet to see him drink water though... PLEASE HELP ME! I dont want him to die! ps. he sits on the edge of his dish for hours eating  more

Resolved Question: Our parrots are strange. Are anyone else's?

Between my parents and me we have 4 parrots, 3 amazons and a goffin cockatoo. My parents have had their 3 birds 37 years, and I adopted my amazon about a year ago (he's 10). We've always wondered if they were weird or normal. Has anyone else's parrot's ever done any of these things- My parents green cheek amazon went bald from his neck up to right above his eyes. His only head feathers left is a little red patch on the very top of his head. He looks like a little green vulture. Vets have checked him out, and haven't found anything medically wrong, and our other birds didn't pluck the feathers out. The rest of his body has perfect, beautiful feathers and no bald patches. He's been bald for 20 years now, and other than that, is healthy and active. Anyone else have a mini-vulture lol? My parents double yellow head was very bonded to me (she used to just sit in my crib when I was a baby, and spent time with me every day for 18 years). When I moved out 4 years ago, she stopped flying (she has always been a good flier, and has never been clipped), and started aimlessly wandering the house on foot. She goes in my old room a lot, or she will sit the middle of the floor in my parents bathroom. Why did she stop flying? (she does still fly every once in a while, she just prefers to walk) My parents goffin finds the most joy in life in luring unsuspecting victims fingers into his beak. Most of the time, hes a little teddy bear, but out of nowhere, he can quickly turn into a vampire. He will puff up the little feathers around he cheeks (which is adorable), and turn his head like he wants to be scratched. as soon as your finger get's close enough, he grabs on and wont let go. Why is he such a sweetie sometimes, and so mean at others? My blue fronted amazon honks like a goose when he's happy or excited. Its absolutely the most hilarious sound to hear, but why does he make it? I've never heard this sound from any other amazon? He is 10 years old, is it possible one of his prior 2 owners had him around geese, or is it a normal amazon noise? My blue front also LOVES kisses. He puts his beak on your top lip and kind of licks it (that's the best way to describe it). He will kiss anyone and everyone. A lot of our friends think he's trying to bite their lip, but he really does just want to kiss everyone. Otherwise, he's pretty shy, and won't step up to new people, but he will kiss them. He's aven fallen off his cage before reaching over to kiss a passerby. Anyone else's bird love kisses so much?  more
