We Saw "Sherlock Holmes"!

Our friend Mitch came over and we tried to go to the 7:30 showing of "Sherlock Holmes" -- but it was sold out (!!!). So we bought tickets for the 10:30 showing and dropped by sister Sue's suzy_qp house. We saw Nicole and cat Chubby, then brought Sue home with us. The four of us played a game of Bunco (loads of fun), with Mitch and Marilyn mistressmarilyn teamed together and Sue and I as a team (we kicked as, by the way). We'll have to play again soon, that's for sure! Then we dropped Sue more

Cat House Questions and Answers

Open Question: Are my gays gay or is it nature?

I have two male cats. They tend to "do it" i don't think anything really happens but theres a lot of thrusting going on on samson (Always on top) the other cat Just lays there. There is this nice cat outside we've called storm (girl) and Goliath (one on bottom) likes her he'll lick her forehead and such. Samson of course gets aggressive adn attacks storm so we keep them separated. WHen we let storm in for the first ten minutes Goliath will be interested then turn and begin looking for Samson who is put up. After storm goes out Samson Sniffs goliath and begins to ignore him. I think it's funny and i know this can happen in the wild but are they gay or is it because they are always int eh house together Samson is older than goliath by a month or two but goliath is bigger if it helps  more

Open Question: if my dogs attacked a cat on our property whos fault would it be and what would happen?

we live in a block of 4 units and for about 3 months the whole block has been empty apart from us, 2 days ago a couple moved in and they have 4 cats. we have lived here for about 2-3 years. We have 2 pitbulls which are still pretty young, 2 and 3 years old. We have 2 cats and they are fine with them. however they arent so good with other cats, none of the cats around (there are millions) have ever come onto the property but these new cats seem to be here all the time, in the garden, eating our cats food, playing in the grass/up the trees, as soon as they dogs come inside they are on our property. the front lawn (where the dogs play) is fully fenced but has a gate the cats can come under. Im dreading the day i wake up and a dead/badly hurt cat is lying on the front lawn. The dogs can come in and out of the house as they please during the day but at night they are inside and then let out in the morning. if one of my dogs killed the neighbours cat on our property could my dogs/me get in trouble? what would happen?  more

Open Question: I have four pets, and I want another?

But my parents say no. Well, my mum does. My dad doesn't really have an opinion on it. I have two cats and two dogs. My parents wanted the two dogs, and I originally just wanted one kitten, which I got. And then, my neighbor was giving away their kittens, and I asked just to see what they say, not expecting them to give in. Aaaaand so, I absolutely adore cats. And I would like another kitten. But my mum just keeps saying, "No. We don't need another animal. Once you're 18 and out of the house, you can have one." But I'm responsible enough to take care of one. I'm 14, I get good grades, I behave, my room is always clean and organized, I help around the house, and I don't understand why they still say no. Help?  more

Open Question: Will the cats find the litter box?

I'm relocating the litter box to a place in the house where there is no carpet. Will they find it? And we are also switching litter brands, will that affect anything?  more

Open Question: Not a big believer of ghosts/spirits, but I feel uncomfortable in my house lately.?

I am not huge on ghosts/spirits really, particularly because i have not experienced anything myself. Until i do, its going to be hard to even believe it based on cheesy ghost tours and those ghost hunting TV shows. But i have lived in this house for about 10 years, my parents built it themselves, so no previous owners or anything. Before the house, there was just a forest here. The main things that have made me uneasy are: This JUST happened and i am still a bit shocked, this was the strangest. I have two little fabric bands hanging down from a shelf in the corner of my room, maybe 20 minutes ago i heard a weird noise to the right of me (like a thump) so i looked, then i check back and the bands were waving. These are not thin little bands, they have some weight on them, and the air conditioning vent not only would not move them, but has no access to them. This is freaking me out. Last week, my girlfriend was washing her hands in the bathroom in the dark, and when she looked up she said she saw a dark shadowy figure standing behind her, and she looked and nothing was there. Though even she dismissed it, she said it was freaky but probably her mind messing with her. Then sometimes i am on the computer (like now), lights off, and from the corner of my eye, i see like something light floating around (like a mist or something). Maybe its another case of my mind messing with me, so i never thought much of this. The final one involves my parents cats. There have been maybe three or so instances where a cat was staring up the staircase, into the dark upper corner of the hallway, with HUGE eyes, just focusing very carefully. It just stares for 30 seconds then scurries away. Does anyone else think any of this is kind of strange? Its been bugging me. Anyone have any theories? This little wrist band thing blew my mind, they are not heavy, but in no way are they light, and its impossible that the A/C or a breeze could move them.  more

Open Question: Are there any dogs that dont shed alot and dont smell bad?

My mom really wants a dog, and i want one too... (we currently have two cats), is there a dog that doesn't smell that bad and doesn't shed alot? My mom likes a clean house.  more

Open Question: How do you tell someone their house smells bad. like really bad.?

like really really bad. To the point of agony (like can't breathe) It's an animal smell.... they don't take care of their animal's pees and poos very well. Or a rotting food smell. With people I know well, I'll just tell them. And sometimes I'll give them febreeze or something similar as a gift for xmas or bday. Or I'll hint at it.... like if it look like they havent cleaned the cat box in a few weeks I'll say 'OMG your cat just took a real doozy of a pee. ugk, cat's suck sometimes. My cat's pee smells so bad I have to change the box every day' And sometimes they'll get the hint. But what If I think they will take offense? I don't want to be rude, but I can't breathe properly in some people's houses.  more

Open Question: What type of cat is right for me?

I have a 10 pound Yorkshire Terrier/ Shi-Tzu mix. A 5 month old baby. There are 4 family members in the house that are over 15 years old. We wouldn't want a luxury cat that needs to be groomed a lot of time within the same day. We can be very affectionate and play games with him for at least 3 hours everyday. We have a house that's pretty spacious, enough room for the cat.  more

Open Question: How much do I charge for house sitting/pet sitting?

I am staying at a friends mother's house for 4 full days, and 3 nights to watch two dogs and two cats. I don't have to travel to work or school during the stay, only personal chores, errands, etc if I need to do any. They are leaving me with plenty of food for my stay. I have to let the dogs out 4-5 times a day, and feed them twice a day. What would be a reasonable price for me to charge? I have never house/pet sat before so I haven't a clue as to what would be reasonable for both of us.  more

Open Question: Please help, I'm so scared. (Best answer)?

I was at my aunts house Christmas eve passing out gifts when all of a sudden I saw these rainbow floaters in my eye and when I would try o focus on something it would get in the way. Thinking it was probably the christmas lights I went out side and it seem the my peripheral vision was off. I started freaking out and dad took me to the ER. the doctor shined a flash light in the eye and ordered a cat scan. He said the scan was fine but didn'td really say anything about my eye. Today my eyes just doesn'ts feel right and Im still freaking my self out by reading things online about what it could be. Im going to see a optometrist Moday if I can get in and have enough money. Does anyone have any idea what this could be. Have you had a similiar expereance? Please be nice a don' try and scare me more. Dave, I live in a really small town and there is no eye doctor on call. =[ I'm really scared.  more

Open Question: Will my parents cat attack my kittens?

I have two kittens, 4 and 5 months old, and my parents have a cat who is 6 months old. I don't live with my parents. the 4 month old is a male and he is not neutered yet and my 5 month old is a newly spayed girl (newly spayed meaning within the last week she had been spayed). My parents cat is a girl and she was ferel before they adopted her. She is spayed. She is an outdoor/indoor cat and mine are both indoor. So, this winter break my house had bug problems and we can't be in it for two weeks so my cats and I had to come live with my parents, which is where I am now, for a couple of weeks. My parent's cat is really afraid of my cats and hisses and growls whenever they are near, which is definitely normal since this is her territory and she's probably confused and scared and basically all of the above. I try to keep them separated, having either my kittens or my parents cat out in the living room at a time. A couple of nights ago, however, my kittens were out in the living room and my dad let his cat out and his cat crouched down and kind of got into a pouncing position, while hissing and growling, and then pounced at the 4 month old kitten and hissed. I got scared so I brought my kittens into a different room. My dad says "just let them fight it out". And, I say "absolutely not". Am I being too protective? Is she hissing and so agitated because of the new-comers? Should I keep them separated for the remaining time that I'm here? By the way, my parent's cat is fine whenever my kittens are not around her. She plays with the kittens toys, which have their scent all over them, and is totally relaxed. It's only when she spots them when she gets mad and scared and stuff.  more

Open Question: I would like to know if I am paranormal?

I am serious. I live in Mt. Airy Maryland, in an about 50 year old home. Today, when I walked into the bathroom that hasn't been updated much, the toilet started flushing randomly. Then baby powder that was sitting on the soap dish fell over. I didn't do anything to it. Whenever I sit in my livingroom I always sense motion coming from the hall. I consistently hear footsteps coming from my attics stairs, in a way I am scared. But this isnt the first time I've seen this. My cat died in my old house, I always hear a cat meowing in my basement where we buried it under the floor board. I have seen ghosts, it may seem funny. But i know i have, and the question is.. Am I paranormal? Or can I like, have a sense to see misplaced souls? please answer.  more

Open Question: Tip of cat's Penis is red. What can this mean?

I took him in to the vet almost 3 months ago. I thought he had a UTI. The vet didnt think so although he didnt even test his pee or anything! He squeezed his belly area and said it wasnt a blockage and didnt think it was a UTI because his bladder wasnt full. My cat pees pretty normally. He was peeing in the tub and outside the litter box quite a bit but since we added another box and fresh water all over the house, and actually scrub the litter box clean at least once a week, he goes a lot more often in the box. There is another male here, and the first male, Whiskers, sprays sometimes, but it is more due to the fixed female that wont let the males near her. After he chases her around for a while, he will then lick himself, and he will "hump" a furry blanket then lick himself when he is done. I noticed that the tip area of his penis is red compared to the rest of the penis. I looked it up and cant find a lot of info on it or the causes, except that it could be a UTI causing it and only one site I saw said that. I want to get him fixed, but I would like to take care of the problem of a possible UTI first, but the vet seems like an idiot who just wants my money without doing any real work to find out what is wrong. I mean he prescribed anti inflammatory pills last time, and I have no idea what for, he didnt even really say, so I didnt give them to the cat. Anyway is it likely that a UTI is causing it, or can it also be the fact that he is sexually frustrated, and from that and humping the blanket, it irritated his penis? I am going to take him to a different vet after the holidays, but I want to get some ideas first as to what it can be. I dont totally trust vets, as most I have delt with seem to mostly be in it for the money.  more

Open Question: Lost cat making itself at home in my apartment?

There's been a little cat hanging around my apartment block and I stopped to pat it with my son. After seeing him a few times, I called the number on its tag. The owner answered and said she was away but someone was feeding it and she'd be home in a few days. She said it couldn't get in to its own house till then. It's very rainy here and the cat is pretty young so I let it into my flat. This was probably a bad idea as it's getting very comfortable (plus my son is falling in love with it, even tho we're not allowed to keep pets). I tried to take it home but it cried and followed me. We went out and found the cat scratching at our door when we came home. The owner has my number because I called her. Is it bad to just shelter the little critter till she comes home or should I chuck it out into the rain?  more

Open Question: What do you do when someones house smells bad, animal bad.?

Like so bad you can hardly breathe. I know they can't smell it, but they should know enough to change the cat box more than once a month, and not let their dogs and other pets go wherever in the house. I had a friend, they literally had a corner of the living room specifically for the dog to pee and poop in... and they barely cleaned it. Or you'll look at the catbox and it's overflowing. With close family and friends, I just flat out tell them. Or I'll buy febreeze as a gift, with candles, and other non direct odor removers. But with people that I don't know too well, i don't know what to do. I don't want to come off rude, but it's not healthy.  more

Open Question: Anyone know what could be wrong with my cat?

Before I explain, I'm not on here to get smart-a** answers like I usually do on here. LoL.. Anyways.. My cat's meow has suddenly changed. It used to be really loud, now it sounds kind of weak and broken up. He's about 5 years old and has a flea allergy which he has monthly meds. for and allergy shots; he's flealess right now . I've had 2 other cats die this year, one in July from a seizure and one in August from fluid in her lungs possibly caused by flea anemia I think. I got them all within a few months of each other so they were about the same ages. I'm extremely worried about about my little Buddy, I just cannot lose him, he's all I have now. Besides the huge change in his meow, he also wants to be around me a lot more. He has to sleep with me every night or he cries then goes to sleep outside my door. And if he's not following me around, he's sleeping on my bed. He has also started vomiting more than usually in the past couple days. And he has diarrhea and has stopped using the litter box for a long while now. He also has sudden running spells; he jolts randomly through the house. I just took him to the vet. a few weeks ago for his allergy shot and a checkup. The vet. didn't say there was anything abnormal, but I didn't think to ask about his meow. I'll call the vet. when they're open again. I'd hate to bother him at home on Christmas. The last cat to die was over 4 months ago.. And he was having these symptoms before the shot.  more

Open Question: What is causing my cat to be sick?

I am seriously having some issues with my cat.(Sorry this will be long) About six months ago my cat just stopped eating and drinking and was losing a ton of weight. We took him to the vet immediately after we noticed he stopped drinking water. The vet ran a whole bunch of tests on him and concluded he had nothing wrong with him. We took him home and he started to eat and drink again. Every now and then won't eat very much for a few days, and then he'll snap out of it and start to eat regularly again. His activity level hasn't changed much through all this, but he wasn't very active to begin with. His temperament has changed a little. He use to tolerate when our other cats use to try to cuddle or play with him, but now he just hisses and walks away. He hasn't gained back any of the weight he lost. He's actually skin and bones. We've been feeding him canned kitten food the past two months to get his weight back up, but it isn't working. Well, in the past few days he started scratching and cleaning himself a ton, and he has stopped using the litter pan and started going in our living room. My mom is worried that he is going into renal failure. When I researched renal failure in cats online I found he didn't have any of the symptoms, other than he is skinny. We're taking him to the vet next week, but we're worried they are going to continue to find nothing wrong. My question is; does anyone have any idea of what is wrong with him? We've toyed with virus he can't seem to get over, parasite, some sort of cancer, depression... we just don't know. We have two other cats that share water and dry food with him, so we figure if it's a parasite or virus they would all have a problem. We're not convinced it's depression either, because nothing has changed in our house. We can't figure it out, someone please help. I would be so grateful.  more

Open Question: Been hitting rats stuck on my glue traps with a frying pan - are there more humane ways to kill?

Our ancient (built 1830) rented house has been infested with rats. We've tried every means possible to kill them without success - snap traps, poison, landlord's cat - until we tried rat glue traps last week, which has caught two so far. I found both large rats just a few hours after they were stuck. SO: What I've been doing is putting a plastic bag over the rat and trap, and hitting it with a frying pan. How effective is it? Both times after one smack all struggling and noises stopped, but I added 3-4 swings just in case. Why a pan? Because it's easier to aim under the plastic bag than a hammer. Why the plastic bag? Because I don't want to see the aftermath, and I can just wrap the whole glue tray in the bag and throw out. This is the most humane/easy way I could think of, rather than letting them die slowly, putting them in the trash alive, etc ... but I'm wondering if you all have other ways you can suggest that are better. Thanks! BTW: I know glue traps are a bit cruel to begin with, but the rats here have avoided all other forms of extermination, including spring traps, poison, and our landlord's cat. We're at a "by any means necessary" point here. So, I'm not looking for suggestions on more "humane" kinds of traps to use, just better ways to dispatch them after they're glued!  more

Resolved Question: How to stop my cats being scared of a dog?

I have 2 cats who get along together fine, and until recently have treated the house like their own palace. But recently my mums fiancee has started bringing his dog over at nights, and the cats are terrified of it. One of our cats is pretty OK with it (although she still won't get withing 50cm of him), but the other cat won't even go in the same room as him. How can we make them not feel scared of him?  more

Open Question: Should I be concerned about rabies?

I was at my friends house and she has an indoor cat that playfully bit me. She says he has been vaccinated but I'm not sure. He never leaves the house. Should i be worried about rabies? And if he wasn't vaccinated, and he had rabies, he would be showing signs by now right? I was bit yesterday The bite just broke the skin and only drops of blood came out. The cat is extremely loved so I'm asuming he's had shots and would be noticed if he left the house.  more

Open Question: Should I move out of my parents house?

Im 20 years old, I have a fulltime job, so I pay for everything except for rent here. They want me to start paying $150 a month, which I know is not much. I need every penny to pay my dues(probation) and loans and such, and I tend to get laid off every now and then. I love my parents, but I feel like its time to go. My dad wants me to go, but my mom doesnt, based on the fact that she thinks I wont make it on my own. My best friend lives right downt the street from where I work, and she offered to let me stay in her basement for free, they just finished it. I told her Id help out when I can. Im generally happier over there, seeing how theres more freedom. Ive learned how to be responsable as far as staying out of trouble. My parents still enforce strict rules, such as being home at 11:30 every night, being involved in church groups, and going to church every sunday, which I dont mind but the fact that they make me makes me feel like a little kid. I feel that my relationship with them would be ten times better if I moved out also. But I also dont know how to tell them because of my moms reaction. One reason why I havent moved out already is because I have a cat, which they wont let me take if I move out. I also prayed about it, I asked God for a sign or a dream to help me decide, which may sound silly to you but hey it doesnt hurt none. So I had a dream that I was with my parents at someones house and didnt want to be there. Then the dream switched and I was with my cat in a warehouse that was flouded. My cat jumped into the water and started sinking, so I jump in to save it, but I began to die because the water was too cold. Then I woke up. Now Im wondering if the dream meant that I was suppose to let go of my cat and move out, since its the only thing holding me back. I dont think it was a coinsidence this dream. I dont know, what should I do? No, I cant take the cat even if I had my own place, they want it.  more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with my cat?

We have had him for about a year and a half now, and had no problems with him up until a week ago. We have two other cats, that we have had for a while also, and he is used to them. So anyways...a week ago he started peeing on my sisters bed. He kept on doing it almost every day. We though it might have been a problem with his litter box being dirty. So my dad went out and bought some new litter, and a new box. Next thing we know, he is trying to pee all over the house. It seems like he is trying to go...but only a few drops come out at a time. He will be squatting down, and if we try to move him, he wont budge. Then if you pick him up he will growl and hiss...which is really unusual because he has always been a good cat. We have had him neutered already. My family doesn't have money to take him to the vet. I would like to know if there is any explaination for this, and if there is anything we can do. By the way, there are no new cats in our neighborhood. No he is not retarted, he is actually a very good cat and is smart. He also holds his tail down.  more

Open Question: Weird dream that was so vivid I kicked the guy in bed with me...interpretation?

I had this weird dream just now and am compelled to ask a question about it. I don't know where I started or how I got there but I was running and someone was chasing me. I remember I wearing warm clothes and apparently it was cold outside. I was in some industrial or abandoned urban place where no one else was around. We eventually made it to this abandoned house and I somehow find that I am being tracked by a dark colored dappelled cat. I think it's a calico but darkly colored and it still has its tail. The person chasing me was female and she is african american. I think she is me but in my dream I'm some fat asian boy. Why I don't know why. I run up to the roof and find some calico kittens but they are not threatening. Then Im on the ground looking for a stick to fight the offender off. Then I am in this junk yard facing this fat hispanic man who tells me to "knock it off" he had a red bucket full of water and i took it and poured it over his head and kicked him. That's when I woke up. The guy in bed with me wasn't Hispanic or fat. Im not a fat Asian boy. What the hell is this dream about?  more

Open Question: Why is my arm going numb?

Yesterday I was walking through the house and my cat tripped me up, which caused me to hit the top of my forearm on the doorway. It stung for a little bit but I didn't really think much of it until my arm went numb from the middle of the forearm down to my wrist. I've got no pain, and my wrist/hand feel and function fine so I'm wondering if i maybe pinched a nerve or something? And what's something I could do without seeing a doctor to fix it?  more

Open Question: New Pups and middle aged Cat?

Our Cat became very angry with us when we brought our dog home. For three weeks she did not come off the table except to potty. We expected that. Two days ago she finally came off the table to sit in my lap. That was nice. The puppies were under the table. We moved them in to my room today because the big Christmas lunch is at our house, and we didn't need the dog to be going out of her mind (Even though we don't use the table they were under.). Not even 5 minutes after the cat came barreling in to our room. She hasn't left. If I bring out one of the pups she'll sniff at it and then ignore it. One of them rolled over towards her, she hissed, and ran across to the other side of the bed for her nap. If the mom goes near her she hisses and bats. The cat hasn't had a litter of her own, so my husband thinks it's why she hangs around them. (Cat is spayed) She won't go near the pups, but she doesn't even attempt to hurt them. And, she can be closer to them then momma dog and be perfectly fine. Should I be concerned? I'd like to believe she wouldn't do anything to them as she doesn't ever go to them, but she just *has* to be 'near' them or in the same room. GOD I need a house with a spare room to keep puppies in away from every other animal. Glad I didn't want that gerbil.  more

Open Question: Getting Older Cat used to new Pups?

I have an older cat (not old, just kinda middle aged). She's pretty calm, but cannot STAND my new dog (who is a rescue and barely over a year). The dog just had pups. The last two weeks of the pregnancy the cat wouldn't come off the table except to use the potty. She used to sleep in bed with us and climb all over us all the time until we took the dog in. Nothing big, we expected her to be mad. The puppies came and were under the table where they could still be gotten to by us and couldn't get in to anything. She would only come off the table to sit in my lap right by the table. Well, we had to move the puppies in to our bedroom because the big family Christmas dinner is at our house tomorrow, and the puppies are only a week old so we didn't want the dog to freak out. Not 5 minutes after I moved them in there the cat was in our room for the first time in weeks. I don't get it! If I bring up one of the puppies she'll sniff it, but the second it flops it's little no-sightedness towards her she hisses. She hasn't tried to bat a puppy, but she runs across the room. She still can't stand the mommy dog and hisses at her and bats her if she comes near. But, now she won't leave our room where the puppies are. I'm not understanding any of this. She stays near them, but can't stand them? I don't want her to hurt any of them while I'm not looking, but she has yet to go near them without me being the one to bring them close. Like I said, with the puppies she hisses and bounds across the room after sniffing them, but ONLY if they accidently fall over on to her. How worried should I be? Is she being protective or the puppies because she won't leave whatever area they are in? Do cats understand when a dog has a litter what has happened (My husband thinks she is confused because she never had kittens of her own)?  more

Open Question: Will I get sick if I bring a stray cat into my house? It's a pretty healthy looking cat?

We've lived in this new house for about a month maybe two and there's been a stray cat that sleeps on our porch at night and we buy her Purina cat food and stuff, and I feel bad for her because it is wet and cold out right now, she's on our porch right now and I'm considering bringing it in, my grandparents say they don't care if I bring it in for the night, and I want to but I don't want to get sick. What are the chances of me getting sick for bringing it in? I've petted it before while it was sitting on my lap, (I mean I've made contact with it before and I didn't get sick, but it was only brief) Help please, this is really bothering me.  more

Open Question: My almost 2 y/o border collie won't stop whining/barking?

I have a border who won't stop whining and he'll be 2 in April. My dog only whines when he is in his kennel and the cats are out where he can see them. I think he's just jealous and feeling left out when I put him in his crate. How can do I get him to stop it? Also, whenever a friend comes to the house and I leave with them, he starts to bark. Doesn't happen when I leave alone, or my mom and I both leave, just with friends. THIS is a big problem because my mom goes to bed early and I tend to leave with friends around that time. How do I stop this? My mom has told me he barks non-stop for up to 1.5 when I leave with someone. I even tried letting him hang out with my friends and I before I leave but that didn't work. What I've already tried and (obviously) hasn't worked... -ignoring his whining/barking (4 months & when that didn't work I tried...) -poking him (which I've continued in the last 6) -lowering my voice -staring him down -basically asserting myself when I give a command Allanas: I've tried meeting them in the street and he still knows. He's smart.  more

Open Question: How can I check my hamster for fur mites/ear mites?

Well.. One day I was reading on how to make sure your rabbit was healthy. I came across something about my rabbit actually having fur mites *and* ear mites. So we called the vet and have medicine for ear mites, and she will begin treatment for fur mites the day after Christmas (Which I'm almost positive she has) Well..It got me wondering, what if my hamster and dog get it? Especially my hamster because she is so small and they squirm around a lot! How can I check her for it?! Like, even if she doesn't have bald spots or dandruff, could she still have fur mites and ear mites? I have a couple questions that I wouldn't mind being answered, if you don't want to, you don't have to: 1.) Once my rabbit has these mites gone, can't that still mean that my house is covered in them? 2.) What's a way I can make sure none of my pets has mites? (Even if the vet were to tell me they were all gone, I would still have a lot of doubt and would have to ask for reassurance a lot!) 3.) If my hamster ever got it, what would her treatment be? 4.) My house isn't scuzzy, and there's no cat in the house, could she have gotten these mites from being outside? 5.) How can I prevent mites from the future, I honestly feel bad for my rabbit-I have eczema so I know how it is to have a long-lasting skin irritation. Thanks so much if you answered my main question, and thank you even more if you answered my five others. (Sorry it's long)  more

Open Question: I think my kitty is sick and the vet is closed for Christmas!?

My kitty (Cora) has been pretty lethargic all day and the vet in my town is closed today and Christmas day... I don't know what to do, I can't get her to eat or drink. I don't know how sick she is, but she's thrown up four times today. When she does, it's never food barf or bloody barf or furball barf, it's always foamy spit. At first I thought she was just having a little trouble passing a hairball. My vet told me that when they have a hard time barfing up a hairball they can get lethargic because they don't feel very good, and she also told me that when they barf nothing but spit it's usually a hairball. I tried giving her hairball control treats but she won't eat them. We recently had the other kitty in our house (Cootie) get sick, and she actually ended up getting hospitalized because she had a really severe upper respiratory infection. Her eyes were all goobery and her nose got all stuffed up and she couldn't breathe, and wouldn't eat because she couldn't smell her food. This looks entirely different though... Cora's eyes and nose are totally clear and it doesn't seem like she has any trouble breathing. When Cootie wouldn't eat or drink, our vet gave us a syringe to kind of force her to take food and water, and it worked for her (until we had to hospitalize her for her breathing). The way our vet told us to test for hydration was to pinch up a little bit of the cat's extra skin and see how long it takes to sink back to the cat's body. Cootie's is nearly instantaneous now but Cora's is pretty slow. I'm really worried because I've heard that poor hydration is really really really really bad for cats. Should I make her take water the same way I did with Cootie? I don't want her to feel like I'm drowning her, but I don't want her to die of thirst either. In my heart of hearts, all I want is like, 18 responses that tell me that it's just a hairball and she'll be fine, but if this isn't true and there's something I could do to help, I want to do it. Tomorrow I'm calling the emergency vet hospital (hopefully they'll be open) and I'll take her in if they are, but if there's anything you can think of to help me make her feel better or more comfortable, please let me know what to do. I'm not a crazy person who gets on answers and says "my cat is bleeding from every orifice, should I take her to the vet?" I know I need to take her to the vet and I'm going to ASAP... Just, if there's anything I can do to make this situation suck less until I can get her there, please let me know... Thanks... -me * Is the airway open? YES * Can you visualize an obstruction? Open Question: I think I messed up bad...?

To be brief, I have been dating two women for around 6 months. I met Katie, who I see more often, when I was actually on a date with Catherine. Katie knew that I was on a date with Catherine yet there was chemistry, so we exchanged numbers while Cat was in the restroom. I know, I know, everyone tells me I am an ass for that and then gets pretty upset when I tell them that I continue to see both of them. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and Catherine and I got into an argument over the fact that her mother saw me with another girl, Katie. I didn't deny the fact I was actually with her, I chose my words carefully and slyly changed the subject. Which after a few days she realized and called me out on it. I lied to her, something I don't like to do, and said I had no idea who Katie was, etc etc. From then on, she basically had been suspicious and has been going through my email account [only one of my many] and going through my phone [but not my work phone ;)]. I told Katie this and Katie has started pushing me to dump Catherine and only be with her. Honestly, I haven't done that because neither of them complete my needs by themselves. Each of them does something different. For example, Katie is a better cook but Catherine is better at other things ;). Anyways, I wanted to escape from pressure on both sides, Cat and Katie, so I told them I was going to my parent's house to spend Christmas to cool off seeing as Christmas split between the two of them would be hell. So yesterday I gave one their gift, and the other their's. The problem is is that I mixed up the gifts. I gave the Catherine the gift with Katie's name on it and her gifts. She knew the girl her mother saw me with was named Katie and pieced the rest together. Do you guys think there is any way to salvage that relationship or is it over for good?  more

Open Question: Do mammals have long term offspring recognition?

I am wondering if mammals, in this case a house dog or cat, can recognize their young after not seeing them for sometime. For Example, could a mother dog recognize her pup if she hadn't seen it since it was 2 months old, and now it is a year old? this is hypothetical. Same question, but instead of dogs, something more biologically advanced, such as a great ape. I have suspicions, but i am wondering nonetheless. thank you/  more

Resolved Question: Introducing a new cat to my old cat?

I'm taking care of a friend's cat for about 4 days, and I have a cat of my own. I have a 8 month old female, who is not spayed yet (her appointment is scheduled though), and the other cat is a 3 month old male also not fixed yet. When we brought him in the house we let them smell each other, and my cat let out a loud mew and her tail fluffed up. For the rest of the day the male cat has been isolated in a room, and our cat has spent some time outside the door. A few minutes ago, we noticed that the door of the room where the male cat is staying was open, and our cat was staring at him through the doorway. He seemed ok, though my cat was shaking. The other cat came and sat about 2 feet away from her, and she let out a snort, causing him to flatten his ears. We took her out of the room, and she is still sitting at the doorway. What can I do to make this easier for the cats? They have seperate litter boxes and food bowls, and we're making sure they both get attention. Thanks in advance.  more

Open Question: How do I avoid moving in a haunted house?
