Cat Hammock Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: Do I know enough about Rats? (You never know enough lol but do I)?
I'm going to tell you my situation very detailed. First off, I want a pet rat. Now here's what I've had in the past. My very first pet was a turtle (technically it was my brothers and i didnt have anything to do with it BUT) It's still alive and i hate the thing) (IT BIT ME DAMN IT!!!) but anyway, we have 3 cats (one lives in my brothers room because she craps on the couch but we don't have the heart to give her away, the other one likes my room and my brothers room too, she would probly be afraid of a rat, she would run away from my small pets (I've had lots of mice and had 2 hamsters) and the last one is really wierd. he's outside most of the time, he has no claws (none of them do), hes the cutest thing uve ever seen until u find last nights kill on the back porch. i have a little dog, the petstore told us we hes a chihuahua, but he looks more like a mini pincher or a jack russel. he didnt ever attack my hamsters....at least after i taught him not to.....but a rats probly bigger then his head. my room has a dresser to put a cage ontop of, and open space if its the kind that goes on the floor. I'm planning on getting only one, but im also planning on spending ALL of my free time with it. I know the cage minimum (24x12x12) she gets flooring and bedding, a water bottle, food dish, a little house, a hammock, climbing toys, and chew toys, plus any other toys that look interesting. If ur entire answers about yelling and screaming about how its so horrible to keep a rat alone i will ignore u, ur not helping if u call me a twat either (idk someone called me a twat.) if u really think its a horrible idea to keep just one rat, back it up with facts, and don't insult me. if wat i was thinking right now was "oh its just a rat who cares if it needs a friend or not" do u think i'd be trying so hard not to get one? (my moms having trouble with the idea.) do u think i'd be here right now asking for advice? if that is wat i was thinking, id be a selfish jerk who just walks into a petstore, buys the cutest one there, and stuffing it into my room then not caring about it. DO U THINK I WOULD BE HERE RESEARCHING IF THATS WAT IM PLANNING ON DOING? don't insult me, don't yell and scream, don't only state that i shouldn't get a rat. moreResolved Question: should I get a ferret?
I have done lots of research about them. I know they need shots every year >need lots of love and time out of the cage >I know they smell really bad and how to help prevent it >the food that they need to eat and that they need more protein than dogs and cats >dog food and cat food can be really bad for them >that hard food is better for their teeth than canned food >all the medical needs and the cost of it >I have lots of time at home to spend with them >I have a dog and a cat and that some ferrets are good with other pets and some aren't >giving lots of baths will make the smell worser >I have family members that can take care of the ferrets when I'm sick or gone for a while >I know about spaying, neutering, and descenting >they love to chew things and get into mischief, and love to hide things >I know a vet if anything goes wrong >they may bite or nip your fingers, toes and so on... >the cage needs daily cleaning and the hammocks need weekly washings Should I get ferrets? Can you guys help me decide? I can't make up my mind. And if you have any more information that I need to know or any bad or good experiences you had with ferrets I would love your help! moreVoting Question: I'm leaving for 8 days... What toys do you reccommend to keep my rats entertained?
I have 2 big male rats (About 6 or 7 inches long without the tail) and I'm having to leave them for 8 days for a family vacation. There will be a friend staying at our house to care for them and our dog and cat but she is not confortable taking them out of their cage and playing with them. She will feed them and such but that is all. I need some ideas for toys for the rats... Homemade and otherwise. I'm sure I could get her to change toys every few days. They currently have a hammock, a nest box, 2 rocks, a chew toy, and a little wood ball they like to chew on. I also have a wheel but they dont use it much... Any cheap or homemade ideas? Thanks! moreResolved Question: In the Lovely Bones Susie has her own heaven based on the things she loved and yearned for on Earth. What....?
would your heaven be like? My heaven would have land like the Fjords of Norway or Greenland. http://www.coder.com/daniel/fjords.jpg With hills and fields of that beautiful green grass and dandelions because despite being 15 I still love making daisy-chains. The water would be that gorgeous blue and nice and cool enough to go swimming in at any time except when it would snow, a soft blanket of snow would coat the Fjords. Instead of having a replica of Fairfax High like in Susie's heaven I would stay in a huge beautiful European castle like this: http://www.bigfoto.com/sites/galery/neuswan/12_neuschwanstein.jpg In my heaven there'd be a riding stables with those beautiful horses that are black in colour and have those long crinkly tails. They'll be easy to ride and the saddles will be both European and Western and beautiful. In my castle it will be old fashioned, mahogany furniture etc). There will be a huge library with loads of books that are all well binded and have hard covers. There will be loads of books, every book that would interest me. There would even be books that had been published after I die. (I.e.: The rest of the series of the secrets of the immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott) and in the library would be a fireplace and some plushy soft armchairs that you can curl up in. There would also be a home cinema, with plushy seats and a large screen. There would be every movie I've ever liked in the collection of movies, even movies that aren't quite out yet like The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, The Lovely Bones and the rest of Harry Potter and Twilight. There would also be an ice skating rink with a little ice cream shop on the side where ice cream came in every flavour and it was never "seasonal" (oh and it didn't cost anything). There would also be a huge theatre (my love for drama). The stage would be huge with endless beautiful costumes. The stage would be huge and there would be dozens of plays to perform and excellent music and lighting effects. Outside there'd be a set of swings, those bucket swings (that cup you arse so to speak) and you can bounce in a little before swinging. There would also be an enormous beautiful old oak with majestic gnarled branches one of which would have a hammock in it. There would also be a old beautiful willow tree with a swing in that. Because I cannot live without pets I would own ferrets, cats, and talking parrots. Other animals such as otters, dolphins, foxes and good Aussie animals would also make their homes in my heaven. There'd be a lot of wildlife because I love nature. I'd be like a celebrity (minus the paps and obsessed weirdos) where my flawless face would appear on the front pages of magazines and newspapers. Oh yeah and in my castle there'd be a music room filled with countless pieces of music and every instrument that ever existed and soundproof rooms. Sorry this is so long but I love describing my heaven, I wish real life was like that. moreResolved Question: Met someone who is keeping a young raccoon as a pet?
I realize this is a long question, but the basic summary is should I do anything about someone I just met and don't know well who is illegally keeping a raccoon in unfit conditions although they plan to release him at some point? The other day I met a friend of my fiancee's who he met at work. We went to his house to later go to a Halloween party. They had lots of pets (a cat, gecko, snake, and hamster) and apparently their roommate caught a young raccoon a little while ago (I'm not sure how long ago or how young it is). I was concerned because, well.. you can tell that the cage is too small. Raccoons in the wild need a lot of space and this cage was about the size of a small dog kennel. I mean it had nowhere to go, it sat in its ferret hammock and that was about all the room there was in the cage. They are feeding him dog food and recently washed him. I'm concerned for the health of the raccoon. I just met these people so it's not really my business to tell them that the raccoon shouldn't be kept like that, but it shouldn't. It's illegal here in GA to own one without a permit which I believe the guy does not have although I'm not sure. They have said that they probably wouldn't be keeping the raccoon when it gets older. Should I do something about it? If so, what should I do? Or is it just not my place to interfere? I don't even know these people, I just met them the other day and doubt I would talk to them again. I'm wondering if I should call animal control or something though, because that raccoon will probably die from health problems if they keep it so cooped up like that. :( But maybe I should just let them decide what to do and stay out of it.. I don't really know, anyone got some advice? Thanks for any help. moreResolved Question: Questions about buying a pet rat.. read more inside :D?

Hi all, I will say firstly, although well intended I don't want 500 replies of "take her to the vet" because I fully intend on doing so. What I am after is a bit of forehand knowledge if anyone has had similar problems (details below) or if there are any vets out there reading this that can give me an idea of what it could be so that 1. I can be prepared for what the vet might say and 2. so I can better tailor her pre-vet care. My cat has no ticks that I can find and does not go outdoors at all. She does have irritable bowel syndrome and is fed on Royal Cannin sensitive (both their wet and dry sensitive products). Last night I noticed when she was eating she seemed to be doing so affectionately (slowly licking the side of the bowl) which I thought was funny and cute as my other cat does this when drinking water, but since she has worsened I realize that this may have been more from her feeling unwell and not wanting to eat. She has not vomited. There appears to be no blood in the urine, although there is some in her stool (I think this MAY be because her stools have been hard and she appears constipated). Today she she seemed unlike her energetic self and more like an older cat that just wants to find a sunbeam and sleep in it. She was asleep in a cat hammock on her cat tree this evening and I went to give her a pat and noticed that she had wee'd and not even moved. This lead me to think she is in some form of pain as out of my two cats she is the most fastidious re toileting. I cleaned her up a bit and she curled up on my office chair. I put some cooked chicken in front of her and she didn't touch it (she is normally a cat that will try to eat anything given a chance). Tonight I found her curled up in one of our rooms and she had pooped but not bothered to move. It was very dry (this constipation could be a symptom or the problem if she is backed up a bit or has an obstruction or other internal issue, or it may be because she simply isn't drinking or eating and as such it could be a result of whatever is wrong - I don't know). I cleaned her up again, and I put her in a shallow box lined with about 3 towels and she has curled up and stayed there for the last few hours (although she has moved herself around in the box once or twice). She is capable of movement, but either due to lethargy or pain she isn't. She is normally a quiet cat and not the sort to make noise when in pain, so the fact that she is being quiet doesn't mean she isn't in pain and makes finding the source of pain difficult. She has no injuries, she shouldn't have worms (she was wormed not too long ago as a preemptive measure when the vet was doing tests to find the cause of her loose stools which turned out to be IBS), has had no surgeries at all, is on no medication, is not pregnant (she came to me quite thin, possibly due to the IBS or the cause of it, and since she is inside only and our other cat is a spayed female the vet and I both decided that it was better to wait until she had a good solid amount of weight on her before bothering to get her spayed). I am thinking that it could be an intestinal blockage (or god forbid, a growth) or some such, or possibly even a urinary problem (although her urine has never smelt particularly strong and the smell hasn't changed). As a preemptive measure, I was thinking of giving her some cod liver oil by syringe to help with her stools as well as get some fluids into her and proteins. If there is anyone out there who has had similar problems or is a vet and could give me some form of idea as to the possibilities of what this could be before I can get her to the vet (which will be tomorrow if the vet is willing to put the bill on an account...) it would be appreciated. Cheers. To "Bob N" 1. I don't want people telling me to take her to the vet because firstly it is a blatantly obvious remark and secondly I don't want to be reading through 500 responses telling me that one thing. What I am after are ideas of what it could be so I can be prepared and possibly confirm/reject my own line of thought. I have a very beautiful cat here that is sick. I am not asking for diagnosis - just possible indications. What do you think I am, some sort of idiot who is willing to take vet advice off people who could be 10 y/o's making up whatever on the net? Im well aware of that, thank you. 2. Of course vets wouldn't diagnose online. I pretty much said that in my question - I AM AFTER POSSIBILITIES. Any real vets out there I would expect wouldn't identify themselves as such due to liability. 3. Do you think that vets are somehow above being normal humans and engaging in normal human activities? Why wouldn't a vet answer questions relative to their field of knowledge if they happen to be here on forums for their own personal reasons? They might not give advice as a vet for legal reasons, but what exactly is stopping them from being just a person on a forum just like any of us? They love animals and if they want to help animals wouldn't a forum be a good way to give the public proper information about pet care? People on forums are from all walks of life, all levels of inexperience from the twits who just waste everyone's time and know nothing right up to professionals. Forums aren't just made up of the lower class society with nothing better to do with their time - if you think that is true then it says allot about yourself for a start since you are here on a forum replying to a question too. The bottom line is Bob, I am asking not for a diagnosis, but for anyone who has any knowledge of similar symptoms in cats so I can get some ideas of possibilities and I can therefore better look after my cat before taking her to the vet. I thought I said that pretty clearly in the question. I followed my vets advice in timing. They said if she wasn't improving today to take her in. Last night she got worse, so as per my vets instructions I am taking her today. I can't take her to a 24 hr emergency vet clinic because they charge through the freaking roof here and I am lucky enough that my vet is doing this consult and treatment on an account for me. Of course I would take her if it was an "emergency" but this is not an emergency, just a situation where I was asking for ideas so I can better help my cat before the vet appointment. Before you reply in a way that leaves people feeling like you are treating them as a fool, do them a favor and read their question a few times first. Thanks. moreResolved Question: What should I name my new kitten?
It is black and white, its face is black, it has white tips on its ears, it has a white belly and a black back and tail, and white legs. It is a boy, about three or four weeks old, and it has golden brown eyes. That's what it looks like, as for it's personality: It loves catching bugs, sleeping in my hammock, chasing my other kitten, Itsy Bits, and watching The Simpsons. (All my cats like the Simpsons, I think because of all the movement and color.) He also is VERY vocal, everytime he sees something new in the house he just has to tell me about it... like this morning he was having a fit because I rearanged the living room furniture. He loves Mexican food (I found that out by accident...) and he loves cheese flavored cat treats. He also like to find tiny places to hide in, and he likes to chase Kleenex, and chase feathers. moreResolved Question: Cat wall bed, how do they jump up high? (picture)?
I asked this yesterday but got no replies.. I bought this wall mounted bed, it's like a hammock I guess, and you screw it into the wall up high, I was thinking about putting it over my bed because that's the only free wall I have, but how do they get up so high? on the pictures they're near the ceiling, there is no way they can jump that high? Does it have to be close to the floor? And remember it's on my wall, so I can't really add stairs to my wall or something haha. http://www.zooplus.co.uk/bilder/plush/hammock/for/wall/mounting/1/400/37308_trixie_plueschmulde_1.jpg Thanks.. he actually has a really posh metal bed on the floor but won't go near it so I heard they like being high and bought that instead. moreResolved Question: Cat wall bed... how do they get up high?

I feel like I should do better for him, but I don't have the money. Anyways what do you think of his cage: http://i32.tinypic.com/iw3kb4.jpg He has 2 food dishes, 2 water bottles, a crinkle tube, a tube that goes from top level to bottom level, 2 hammocks, 2 fleece beds, a fleece blanket, a fleece hanging ball, bell toys, a litter box and link toys. Lots of other toys (balls w/ bells, rubber bones/circlets, plush toys, cat toys) moreResolved Question: I need help with ferrets!?
Okay, so I`m gonna get a ferret soon and I`m really clueless about several things. 1. Does anyone know a good vet for a ferret? (I live in the Philippines btw.. :) ) 2. Does anyone know where I can get a cage and hammocks and etc.? 3. For it`s litter box, what can I use to fill it up? I know that I can`t use normal cat litter because it will clog up their respiratory system and I`ve heard that the litter should be dust-less. So where can I get that? :) moreResolved Question: keeping ferrets outside?

Well i came across an ad for two ferrets in Brooklyn - Aren't they illegal in the five boroughs? with that being said i sadly, Live in one of the five boroughs , But people have ferrets anyway. They are being kept in a nice sized cage, ITs just that the cage is well, Old - they are being fed out of cat dishes, they have a wired cage, newspaper as bedding under the wiring, one hammock and thats it, i don't even think its a hammock looks like a small blanket, i was thinking of *adopting* them , and then fostering them out, put them in a nice cage and all , Give them a good home, Then screen homes i have experience with fostering i've been fostering dogs and cats for about a year or a little less. Looks like one has hair loss like , Thinning hair heres the ad: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/pet/1247597670.html What do you think i should do if anything? i might be able to find a friend, OR my sisters friend who wants them. i've seen this ad up for about a month - i don't want them going to a shelter, OR being left out on the street or perhaps just the wrong people. moreResolved Question: What are some good treats and toys for rats? Fun and crative ideas PLEASE!?
my 2 rats (Hoodie & Zelda) are so much fun, but dont care much for toys. my mom wont let me do the digging box cuzz it makes a huge mess, they dont like cat toys, chew toys arent much of toys, they use the tissue box as a bed mainly, and hammocks are for sleeping. i have given them lots of different fruits and veggies, but i want NEW ones! list your rats favorite toys and treats. please help :) thanks!! :D i know all of the websites! i've been to dapper a million times and i've been to other sites too. i want YOUR opinions on what YOUR rats like i've tried toilet papers cuzz they're the only size that fits in the cage (i have a tall skinny, not fat, long cage). i'll try it tho :) moreResolved Question: sleeping ferrets question?
I have had my two female ferrets for about a year now and they are completly potty trained so I want to just get rid of their huge bulky cage. I bought them two very nice cat beds that kind of look like eggs with an opening in the front because I know they want to feel sheltered when their sleeping. Will they be okay with these beds or do you think I should keep the cage because it has their hammock in it? Has anyones ferrets ever liked sleeping in pet beds outside of the cage? I just dont like only having a huge cage because they like sleeping in their hammock. Thanks! :) They never go in their cage except at night time when I lock them in there. During the day they sleep outside of their cage under my bed and the eat outside of their cage. So their only really in there when I lock them in there. moreResolved Question: Read my essay i wrote to my mom about me get a ferret..tell me what you think!!!!?
Okay so this is what i wrote to my mom to let her let me get a ferret. so please tell me what you think i also had two pics of ferrets so maybe you'll think there cute. Mom, I know that I’ve been begging to foster a dog and, I’m not saying I don’t want to its just… I know I’ll never get a dog or another cat. I really want a pet that is hyper but small, loving yet playful, and crazy yet a companion. I problem know what your thinking “Oh no here we go again…I want dong I want a cat I want a hamster NO!” But really I want a pet that I can take outside and play in the snow with him. And guess what the pet isn’t a cat or dog nor a rodent. It’s a ferret. Now your thinking “Eww they smell and their ugly” I thought the same thing at first. But now after reading, watching, and hearing about how great they are. And after doing some research they sound just like the pet we (I) need. First you may think that ferrets can go outside and play in the snow. Well…. they can in fact they love the snow and love to swim to. Here is a little list of things that ferrets can do. PS. There not rodents! 1.Ferrets can run, play, swim, and dig in the snow. 2.Ferrets like to snuggle up to you and take a nap. (Ferrets like to sleep 14-16 hours a day just like cats!) 3.Ferrets love to go on walks. 4.Ferrets get along great with other animals like cats. Did you read some things that you’re thinking, “wow I never knew that” I hope so. Well ferrets are a lot like cats they love to play and their curious. But there also like dogs they like to go on walks and like to ride in the car, they also love to run. Now the part you were thinking about. “WHAT ABOUT THE SMELL!!” Well just like any other animals ferrets have a smell. But there are lots of ways to decrease the smell. First you can spay and neuter them, which will really help. Second you can decent a ferret which most ferrets come decented. The last thing is giving them the right food, bedding, and litter. Now for the “FERRET CARE CHART” Daily needs----New food and water---Play time or “out of cage time” for at least 2-4 hours Weekly needs----Change bedding and litter Monthly needs----Bath every 3-4 months Now that’s not so bad! The one thing I like about ferrets is that there playful even when the get old. Ferrets never calm down when it comes to age they will be just a hyper as they where when they where little kits (baby ferrets). They can also live between 5-11 years old almost as long as a cant and sometimes longer! They sometimes get bored easily but give them a few baby/cat/dog toys they’ll be good. As you can see ferrets are like having a mix of cat/dog/weasel. And all I’m asking for is 1 or 2 ferrets they could be kept in my room at the end of my bed or on the other side of the fish tank. They would go on walks and play every day till there little heart stops beating. The all you need for ferrets Cage 36in x 24in x 24 in (90cm x 60cm x 60cm) Water/food bowls Toys Food Hammocks Collar(s)/Harness (S)/leash(s) Treats That’s all I know you’ll probly say no but I don’t want a ferret until I’m done with horseback riding camp. So please think about it and maybe do a little research before you say no. And if you want you could read my ferret book “The Ferret Handbook” I’ve asked for these pets Dog Cat Horse Frogs Fish Hamster Bird Here are the animals you’ve let me have Fish Cat Hamster So please think about owning a ferret. Ferrets are small just like the other animals I’ve had. Thank you for reading this far. I hope you’ll give this pet a chance. Okay people i'm only 11 and i've done my research. and cats dont live 15 years old there lucky if they make it to 11 cause my uncle is a cat breeder so ya. and sorry if i miss spell something BUT I'M ONLY 12! and i know there alot of work and i like that and i know alot about them! moreResolved Question: Best ferret litter? And how to retrain her to her box?
I use aspen for all of my animals because I find it to be the cheapest and safest alternative available in my area. Problem is, my ferret (Zelda) has found it to be a suitable sleeping material, rather than a bathroom material. She has blankets and hammocks, she just seems to enjoy sleeping in the litter box. She has a small, flat cat pan. She used to go in it, but then she realized she can push the box over, poop next to it, and go to sleep inside of it. Any help would be appreciated. My local pet stores recommended cat litter, or putting aspen across the entire bottom of the cage, and I don't like either ideas. moreResolved Question: i have some more questtions on rats?

I took my ferret to the vet today and I want to know if any other ferret owners have seen either of these marks on their pet(s). On my ferret's back there is a red patch on either side, the left side has a more prominent "rash". The hair in that area is thinning. I noticed this 4 days ago, so I washed by ferret's home top to bottom. I cleaned all the hard surfaces with bleach and his hammocks with hot water and hypo-allergenic soap. The ferret was also given a bath with a no perfume, no dyes gentle puppy shampoo that has aloe for irritated skin. This morning I noticed a red circular mark on his neck, behind his right ear. I made an appointment to see our vet. They do treat some ferrets, but as is all too common, they do not specialize in "pocket pets". I am hoping that it is not adrenal disease as I have had a ferret that died from that and it was horrible. The vet is running a blood test to see if anything is showing that possibility. He is not losing hair on his tail, and the hair loss is only around the "rash". The marks on his back are at the spot where he could easily turn around and nibble this area, so I was thinking maybe it was a stress thing. I do have a cat, so ringworm is possible, even though I do not see any marks on my cat, myself, or fiance. They also did not see anything when they put my ferret under the black light. I do not see any other red marks indicating something like fleas. The red mark looks like a perfect circle, I did not have to remove a tick. So, any ideas? moreResolved Question: Need help on picking a cat tree!?
Hey everyone. I'm about to buy a cat tree from www.armarkat.com and need some help deciding. I have two Bengal kittens. One is a year old and the other is 9 months. They are very energetic and my older cat keeps climbing up everything in my house, including the blinds on my windows, so I think a cat tree would be a good idea. lol I'm torn between two and I can't choose. http://www.armarkat.com/classic-cat-tree/classic-cat-tree-b7301/prod_25.html This one is smaller but has a cool little hammock with a rope. http://www.armarkat.com/classic-cat-tree/classic-cat-tree-b7801/prod_28.html I'm leaning more towards this one. It's taller and has multiple platforms for the to jump up on and climb. So which one would you choose for two very energetic cats? Thanks in advance! She mostly does it when she is playing with me dogs or laying in my arms.I think it is a good sign. Sometimes she scratches at her chin while holding her head this way, but not more than one or two swipes so I don't think its an itch... these are some GREAT guinea pig toys 1) A balled up piece of blank computer paper. (Anything colored may contain harmful dyes). 2) Empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel tubes. Many pigs love to gnaw on these, carry them around the cage, etc. 3) Same as number 2, but with a slit up the side and stuffed with hay. 4) Bird toys. Some like them to hang from their cages in various spots. Other guinea pigs prefer them laying on the floor of the cage so that they can pick them up and shake them all about. 5) Ping Pong balls, tennis balls, ferret balls (or cat balls that don't have small parts that can be chewed through and swallowed). Some piggies enjoy nudging these around their cages. 6) Ferret hammocks and ferret sleeping bags. You can buy these any pet store that sells ferret supplies, or you can make your own. 7) Stuffed animals. 8) Empty old sock. Some cavies like to drag one around the cage with them. 9) Old sock stuffed with hay. 10) Large Chubes are fun for them to run through and chew. 11) Hidey Houses are great to run through and climb upon. 12) Pieces of PVC pipe for them to climb through, hide in, climb on, etc. 13) Large piles of hay to hide in, sleep in, and of course EAT! 14) Cinder blocks make great hiding places AND keep them cooler in the summer. 15) The largest size plastic Igloo ("Pigloos," if you will) sold by pet stores. 16) Large "Fiddle Sticks" sold by pet stores make great hiding places. 17) Empty brown paper bags make great hiding places as well as something fun to chew on. 18) Empty cardboard boxes. Larger ones make great "houses," and smaller ones filled with a few food pellets make great "rattles" for your piggie to toss about. 19) Cuddle Cups can be found at most pet stores and make great "beds" for your guinea pigs. 20) Mirrors. Some guinea pigs like to look at their own reflections. 21) Towels/blankets draped strategically around the cage can create fun "caverns" for them to hide/play in. 22) Wooden toys such as alphabet blocks, wooden spoons, etc. moreResolved Question: do you think this is mean?
My cats pee on stuff, which makes my apartment smell. My landlord complained and said if it continues she will evict me (they don't pee on carpets, just our clothes) My solution was this: I bought a 4 tier cage and they are only allowed out when supervised The cage has 2 litter boxes 3 food dishes 3 water dishes 3 beds, 2 hammocks, plenty of toys, 2 scratching posts and a hand full of "blankets" (old shirts and towels) They come out (roughly) at 9 am when i get up and go back in a 2pm when i leave for work out at 7 pm when my fiance gets up and back in at 11pm when he goes to work and out at 12am when i get home and in between 2 and 4 am depending on when i go to bed. Is this mean? They actually like the cage, when I get up I open the doors and they stay in there for a while before coming out, and go in and out as they please if one of us is around. sorry, there are 3, they all get along well and have been together since 8 weeks. moreResolved Question: Does anyone have a cat radiator hammock?
I'm thinking of getting one for my cat but it is quite large. I don't wan't it to break! Can you reccomend one that will hold a fairly big cat (she weighs 12lb)? Also, do your cats like to use theirs often? is it worth the money? moreVoting Question: How can you treat a kitten and dog equal? and how can someone critize you when they treat their cat worse?
So i have a 1 1/2 yr old dog and a almost 10 week old kitten. My dog is spoiled with tons of toys, meat, walks and she comes on trips with me. The cat has a few toys (8 balls and a pack of springs) and a cat tree (a huge one with platforms, a hammock, a dangling thing to bat back and forth and a hole to go in),she eats kitten food, she plays with anything she sees around including most of the dog toys and she has cat treats. I don't plan taking her outside or on trips with me. My roommate says that the kitten is going to be miserable unless i treat them the exact same. However she has a cat and her cat hardly has any toys and she leaves the cat alone for weeks. My cat with have my brother to keep her company. She expects me to treat my cat exactly like my dog which seems unreasonable to me. Plus she expects me to treat me kitten way better than she treats her own cat. So by that logic if my cat is miserable being treated better than her cat but less than the dog then her cat must be incredibly miserble. Right? moreResolved Question: Does this cage look big enough for two rats?

Here is some info you need to know Pine and Cedar should never be used for rats bedding, it hurts their already delicate respiratory system. Always keep them in at least same sex pairs (or neutered/spayed non sex pairs), sometimes there is one who gets along with no one, but in general rats are very social. Almost all pet store stuff advertised for rats is bad. For example, run about balls, they are dangerous, and have poor ventilation, and I have never met a rat that went into one without a fight (except when hung up in a cage and used as a bed. Don't use an aquarium to house them in -- and make sure that the wired cage you buy is the appropriate size for the number of rats you'll be keeping by using the Cage Calculator --> http://www.ratsrule.com/cagecalc.html. DON'T feed your rats the seed mix crap that is sold as "rat food" at pet stores. Seed mixes are high in fat, not healthy, and often contain things that rats shouldn't even have. Also, stay away from Kaytee brand foods. DO feed your rats a staple of lab blocks ((Mazuri, Oxbow, and Harlan Teklad are good brands)) or a HIGH QUALITY dog food kibble. Dog food should be a formula that is low in protein and fat, such as a senior or light formula. Suppliment with grains, fresh veggies, and fresh fruits. DON'T use perfumes or sprays near your rats. Use unscented laundry detergent for rat laundry. I'll also share what I have learned the hard way.... DO start a vet fund. If you haven't already got rats yet, keep in mind they aren't cheap pets. They need vet care just like a dog or cat, but often times it's more expensive to treat a rat (depending on your area). So be sure to have a 'Vet Fund' ready. If you have already gotten your rats, start saving now, and call around and find a vet in your area. It will be so much less stressfull later on. DON'T go into petstores. Avoid them as much as possible. Petstores often carry sick rats, and you could bring a virus home to your rats. (If you have to go in, wait three hours before returning home.) Also avoid adopting rats from petstores, because they are often sick and/or have parasites. DO: Quarantine, Quarantine, QUARANTINE. Get a powder coated cage. Galzanized metal can give your rats zinc posioning! Make sure you give them plenty of chew things. Their teeth are always growing and need to be ground down. (Plus, if you don't, they'll find something ELSE to chew, most likely something you don't want them gnawing on! ) Find a good rat vet in your area, preferably BEFORE you take your rats home. Be sure the vet is experienced with rats, or extremely willing to learn and do research. Check with your vet about emergency vet clinics that are near to your home, or ask if your vet is on-call during the evenings and weekends. Spend time learning about various common rat illnesses and problems, so that you are not taken too much by surprise if an emergency arises. Knowledge is power and can help to protect your wonderful little rats. Before you bring your rats home make sure you have: *A decent sized cage (atleast 18wx30lx24h-bigger is better), proper food(mazuri for young rats and Regal Rat by Oxford for when they're over 6 months), a variety of cage accessories(hammocks, tubes, tunnels, hidey houses, ect.), bedding(Carefresh prefereably but never pine/cedar), food and water bottles/bowls and fruits and veggies to be given daily. Don't buy the cheap stuff and say "oh this will be okay for now". *Read an assortment of books on rat care and health( Rats by Debbie Ducommun is a good place to start) *Really thought it through and are willing to care properally for these wonderful animals their whole life(vet visits inluded) Also be sure to cover all wire mesh levels in the cage as this can lead to sores and injuries for your rat. And lastly, make sure you are able to provide atleast an hour of suprivised free range time for your rats everyday and can interact with them atleast a total of 3 hours a day A vet fund has to be substantial. It cannot be just a few dollars. It has to be put in place BEFORE you obtain rats. I'm so sick of people coming on here and saying that they just can't afford vet care. Everyone should be able to afford vet care and that excuse is NEVER good. There's never a good excuse to not have a vet fund. You need to have money set aside for that, and only that. when you first get rats, before you ever take them out of the cage make sure they're in a room without holes or places they can escape through or dangerous things like electrical cords lying around everywhere. Tie the cords up, patch the holes. Accidents happen and I've read way too many posts about rats being lost forever and I know how paranoid I am, and how horrifying that must be. So, even if rats aren't allowed to free range the room they're in should still be rat proof with no escape routes because accidents happen. Then he had a guinea pig cage, he could escape from as well as a few others, then there was a chinchilla cage, the cats could get at him in that one. Currently he is in a Rabbit hutch which he can escape from. His next cage... There was a ferret questionnaire going around one of the groups I belong to, I had fun reading the answers, so I thought I'd post one on here. Most of the questions come from the one posted on the group, and then I added a couple of my own. It's kind of long, but hopefully you'll enjoy it. 1. Do any of your ferrets ever "pretend" to go potty? 2. Do your ferrets do the "scootin bootin" after potty? 3. Have any of your ferrets ever stolen something and then hissed at you when you try to steal it back? 4. Do any of your ferrets sleep on their backs with their paws in the air? 5. Do any of them sleep with their tongues hanging out? 6. Do any of them sleep on their backs in their hammocks with their heads hanging out upside down? Do their little noses touch the floor, too? 7. Do your ferrets snore or make any other noises in their sleep? 8. Have any of your ferrets tried to fly as if they think they CAN fly? 9. Do you give your ferrets raspberry kisses on their bellies? 10. Have any of your shoes and/or slippers ever "magically" appeared in your ferret's stash spot? 11. What's the weirdest thing you've found in your ferret's stash spot? 12. Which one of your ferrets jumps the highest when they do their "happy dance?" 13. Do any of your ferrets plow over anything and everything in their path when they start doing their "happy dance?" 14. Use one word to describe each of your ferrets. 15. Would you trade your ferret(s) for a million dollars? My answers: 1. Not so much anymore, but they all did it at one time when I first litter-trained them (I was using treats, so they would pretend to go just for a treat!). 2. Yep, they all do it. 3. Zoey does it ALL the time - for a tiny little thing, she sure does have A LOT of attitude! 4. Yep, the only one I haven't seen sleep like that is Zoey, and Chloe sleeps like that the most out of all of them. 5. Yes, it's so cute! =) 6. Cooper does a lot, but his nose doesn't touch the floor (the hammock is too high up from the cage floor). 7. Sometimes, it's usually Cooper. 8. Zoey & Dodger are always launching through the air from one thing to another! 9. Hehe, yeah, I do. 10. Yes! Well, they used to, I've learned to keep the shoes and slippers hidden when the little fuzzbutts are out! 11. I usually set my clothes for the next day out on my desk after I get home from work. One morning I noticed my bra, underwear, and one sock were missing. I looked under the bed, and there they were, in Zoey's stash spot with her other favorite stash toys. 12. Hmm...probably Zoey. 13. Yeah, Sammy! The other ferrets are always getting trampled over by him, he's even ran over a few sleeping cats! 14. Dodger - the boss (and rightfully so, he was the first); Zoey - feisty; Chloe - goofy; Sammy - clutzy; Cooper - clueless (he just has this clueless look on his face all the time) 15. NEVER! moreResolved Question: What is the best to own? That follow closest to my description?
They know who you are. So I really don't know what. Also I have a leopard gecko but it doesn't do anything, it just sits there and looks pretty cool. I have 3 dogs already I was wanting more along the lines of rodent or weasel family Guinea pig does sound like my best bet, only they are a tad to big. Unless the poor little thing wants to be stuffed in a 20 gallon aquarium. Yes I think not XD My leopard gecko is 3 months old Oh and I have a cockatiel who was given to me and was 7 and never been handled and hates my guts and I can't touch him So I got a parakeet to see if he'd been any better, WRONG, he's like 5 times worse than the cockatiel moreResolved Question: Baby nursery, Winnie the Pooh theme, looking for creative ideas
so far we've decided to go with red-shirt pooh, rather than the classic pooh and we've decided to use a neutral color scheme, particularly light green but besides buying the "Winnie the Pooh" line of baby items that everyone else has (crib, bedding, mobile, lamp, diaper stacker, etc...) we just don't have many creative ideas to make this nursery our-own (one-of-a-kind) we've talked about getting a stuffed-animal hammock for the corner and using it to hold all the stuffed-animal Winnie the Pooh characters from our childhood (Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Gopher, Rabbit, Owl, etc...) we've also talked about painting some empty flower pots with the word "hunny" on the side and use them to hold little things like diaper creams and pacifiers, any little knick-knacks that baby needs handy as far as the walls go, we decided to frame finished mosaic style jig-saw puzzles of Pooh and Tigger rather than paint (since we rent) or hang the same old framed posters you see in all the nurseries link to one of the puzzles we are using: http://www.buffalogames.com/products/1000_piece_puzzles/disney_photomosaics/?tx_ttproducts_pi1[backPID]=70&tx_ttproducts_pi1[product]=165&tx_ttproducts_pi1[cat]=8&cHash=01fbc7632f We're really at a loss here, we want this nursery to be fun and playful, something the whole budding family can enjoy...can anyone offer any unique or creative ideas for decor? My boyfriend and I have three ferrets. We adopted two females together last year and they were great right from the start. They were litter trained and still are, except for the occasional accident. We then adopted another female a few months later and the lady we adopted her from had her from birth and never exposed her to...um...anything really; she was in a very small wire-bottomed cage with a hammock and no litter box. She was a little over three years old when we got her. In the beginning she was a bit hesitant to the litter (as well as afraid of the other ferrets...we had to separate them for the first 5 weeks or so) but did get really good at using it up until about a month ago. She now blatantly goes outside of the many designated litter pans and in open corners. We have used the same type of cat litter the entire time. Is there anything we can do to fix this? moreResolved Question: Making and buying degu toys, any ideas?
hey everyone, I've had my 2 degus for about 3 months now, and they've got some toys as it is, a wooden house they used when they were small to hide in, now it's just a bench/chewing toy for them, they have two cat toys with rattlers in them that they like to bring down to their nest and a cardboard tube with some fluff inside that they like to run down and play in. I'm hopefully going to be making a hammock and rope bridge contraption for them later on today, but I just think they might like some small things to play with. ***** The thunderous herd of butterflies rolls down from the hyacinth. We tremble not as the air shakes none. The terrible tormented snails charge as Kipling’s Light Brigade is told in the gazebo by Aunt Charlotte. Lemonade quaffs a parched niece and nephew as the caterpillars spin a silken hammock for their afternoon nap. Gilgamesh and Josaphat are new names for two old cats that sleep in the shade nearby. Fairies that look just like dandelion seeds float in the afternoon air as the tales of foreign travails flow down from Olympus… And Auntie’s flask gives her a splash as she reads to us of sprites and spirits on ice. ***** moreResolved Question: I need ideas!!!!!?
I need websites with instructions on how to make your own hammocks, pouches. anything for sugar gliders, ferrets, or cats. I am wanting to make my own stuff for a ferret i might get, i already have suz's sugar glider site, and also something called candiflip. so anything other than that would be great! thanks!! moreCat Hammock News
