Commercial Coffee Machines Questions and Answers

Voting Question: Home coffee machine versus professional ratchet machine?

Is the coffee produced from a professional ratchet coffee machine any better to that produced by a quality home machine which grinds beans to your preset fineness, tamps them down, prebrews them, then forces water through at a full 15 bar? I fully understand the differences between the machines and that a commercial machine will last longer and be of higher capacity, the question is, is the coffee any better and if so why? Thanks!  more

Voting Question: What "commercial" espresso machine should I buy?

I'm going into the coffee business so I'm doing a little research to find out what commercial equipment I need (grinders, espresso machines, blenders, coffee machines, etc). I do know that I want a group 2 espresso automatic machine, as far as brand, I have no idea. Also, if someone knows of a supplier in the SF bay area that would be great. Thank you for any help you can provide. I almost forgot, please support why you suggested this brand. The more backup and information you can provide, the better. I'm not trying to be picky but if we could avoid "one liner" answers that would be really helpful to me. Thx !  more

Voting Question: Espresso/coffee maker tv commercial on recently...?

There has been a espresso/coffee maker (might just be espresso and latte) machine on a commercial on tv and it shows the machine making the drink into a tall mug... Resolved Question: Would YOU go out with me?

I know this is somewhat of an immature question, but I'm just curious to find out exactly how accurate/inaccurate my preconceptions of my "likability" or sex appeal really are. I am slightly above average neurotic and self-conscious, and my self-esteem is pretty low right now, so I figured I'd ask this question. Okay, the following is literally taken off of my INFO tab on my personal Facebook account. Here goes: Relationship Status: Single Interested In: Women Political Views: Independent Religious Views: It's all the same God seen differently through different eyes. Personal Information Activities: School and work, songwriting, political activism, love, alcoholism from a lack thereof, reading books/novels, creative writing, philosophizing about reality and solving problems with society in my mind. Interests: Learning, loving, making music to inspire, connecting, thinking, political debate, coffee, Red Bull, chillaxation, meditation, vacations, stand-up comedy, free movies @ Regal Cinemas; ), Roller Coasters, jogging when I have the time/will-power, answering questions on Yahoo Answers, listening to dusty old records from my collection, going record shopping, waxing on as well as waxing off, etc, etc... Favorite Music: Anything "blues-based", like acid rock of the late 60s, Classic Rock of the 1970s, grunge/most 90's music, retro/garage rock, Southern Rock,Bluegrass, funk, soul, ska, Reggae, the original punk rock (late 70s early 80s), some if not most of the punk rock rivial of the 1990's,british pop rock of the 1960s and otherwise, some "metal" such as system of a down, nin (actually industrial grunge in my opinion),Meshugah, Rob Zombie, or rage against the machine, some rap such as cypress hill, wutang clan (preferably old school when rap was still by the people for the people)... I'm kinda picky about what I put into my stereo/put onto my turn-table...wouldn't want to waste a perfectly good pair of speakers/eardrums! What I like more than any particular genre is any song that tells a good story with a good riff and/or a good rythmn (ie beat)... Favorite TV Shows: I mostly try not to waste my life away with television, but when I do, I tend to watch cable news programs, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart/ the colbert report, Weeds, Breaking Bad, whatev I can find while channel surfing that isn't broadcasting sexually devious and mindless propaganda (ie commercials)... Favorite Movies: Any flicks by Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, Kevin Smith, StarWars, good horror flicks (not slasher), crazy films that mess with your head like The Science of Sleep, ect. Also, Jim Carey flicks, good horror movies, and classic action/adventure movies such as Indianna Jones and Back to the Future...However, I also tend to like any movie that has a cult following. Favorite Books: The Art Of Happiness by the Dali Lama, which helped me to find enjoyment from every aspect of life, High Fidelity & Songbook...both by Nick Hornby, absolutely hilarious for any fan of music, Contact by Carl Sagan, a very deep philosophical and thought provoking adventure with themes such as the existance of extraterrestrials and God, The Torah by God, Aliens, or someone posing as God, a very biased approach at explaining why we exist, nevertheless still important in its ancient and widely accepted ideals, Cool Gardens by Serg Tankian, poetry for freethinkers, Dreams From My Father by President Barack Obama, a book that got me off of drugs and back into school, Stephen King's The Stand, Social Intelligence, the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, selfexplannatory if you are a fan-if you aren't than you wouldn't understand anyway, a book called Zen Guitar that I don't remember the author's name, it helped me to "relearn" how to creatively make music without the use of drugs-as well as getting in touch with your inner imagination, Kurt Cobain Journals, tragic but fascinating, and I'm sure there are more... Favorite Quotations: "If there are a number of explanations for observed phenomena, the simplest explanation is preferred." -Occam's Razor "The leaves fall, fall as from afar... They fall with slow and lingering descent. And in the nights the heavy Earth, too, falls, From out the stars into the Solitude. Thus all must fall. This hand of mine must fall. But there is one who holds this falling, Infinitely softly in his hands..." -A passage from a Hebrew Prayer Book for Yom Kippur services [If you are reading this sentence, ] Thanks for reading all the way through! By the way, I did NOT "take the time to write all of this out" all at once! Are you crazy?! I add a little bit to it every now and then since I first created my account... Why, do you think I should edit it? Seriously, I'm asking lol...  more

Voting Question: I'm being sued for $12,000 I can't afford a lawyer what should I do?

I rented a commercial property as a site to package coffee. The landlord and surrounded companies were all aware of this before I moved in and started construction. When I got papers and contracts to sign with the landlord, the government issued paper on what kind of companies can operate there, food service like packaging coffee was not stated. I stopped monthly payments and I've been in this lawsuit with him for the past 2 years. The machines inside and everything in there has been collected and taken by the landlord. I owe around $12,000 of rent and his lawyer fees but the stuff he's taken is worth more than $300,000. How can I win this case? Hey I'm asking for advice to do this without a lawyer. I've spent $2000 alone hiring a lawyer to get the hold off my bank account. I can't afford to spend that kind of money.. it's been 2 years who knew what he's done to those machines. I'm willing to throw them all away I just don't want to pay another $12,000 when it's his fault to begin with. Not permits.. there's this government issued paper that says what's allowed to go on in there.. He showed it to me AFTER $10,000 worth of construction was done on his property. He knew what it was rented for and didn't disclose the information on how it's not allowed there. He even paid to open the doors more so my machines could fit through..  more

Resolved Question: can you correct my one page essay about shamwow?

its says discribe and analyze the effectiveness of one advertisement for the product. present your decription and analysis in paragraph format one page consider the following points: i may not know the advertisemnt so describe it frully who is the consumer?(target market) remember the rules for creating good advertising reveiw the media rating chart what is the product's compititve age? this is what i asked for please read the way i write it and feel free to corect every single of my mistake and feel free to add some of your ideas:) thank you so much:) i want you to add for me some ideas who are the consumers of this product, thnx again Part C: - Advertising analysis This advertising is about a towels wash, dry and polishes any surface. One guy advertises about this product very briefly. He starts introducing his name as and the product he says sham wow is like a towel, chamois and sponge all in one, except it is extremely absorbent and can be used over and over. And also this guy introduce the product how relevant and easy to use it also this product or sham wow is machine washable bleachable, will not scratch any surface and will last for years. Moreover he said the product is relevant to use it for whatever we want like cars, boats, carpets, windows, bath etc. easy to remove cola, coffee, pet stains, it doesn’t drip or don’t make a mess and it will last 10 years. The consumer of this product the majorities are in the middle age like householders. In my opinion this product advertising accomplishes the attention, interest desire and action of the consumers. The ad was hilarious the person used some jokes like “made in Germany the germen people always make good stuffs” and he mentions the brand again and again the sound and the vision was clear and interesting. Moreover the massage of the ad was simple and consumer can be able to keep the massage in mind. In addition this ad get out in action to show the advantage of this product to the consumers and the consumer indeed admitted the product by saying “sham wow I can’t live without it” generally this ad has a logo, slogan, brand name and contact information ready for the consumers. The sham wow commercial adversities through TV, internet, radio, and magazine. I watched this program on women channel which is shows that they put the commercial on appropriate channel for consumers to find it’s easy. The product competitive age most likely is on maturity stage. Because there are other products that are similar with shomwow in a lot of ways so it’s hard to be secure form the compotators  more

Resolved Question: I haven't had a good nights sleep in over 2 months because I can't turn-off my brain. Ideas?

I know it sounds crazy and I think I am starting to actually go crazy from lack of sleep. I haven't had a good night's sleep in about 2 months. I can only sleep for about 3 hours at a time. I'm a tough chick, but my lack of sleep is starting to really get to me and I am just tired of being tired. When I lay down in bed, I'm tired and I know it and I really want to sleep, but my brain won't stop running. I am naturally a "thinker", but it seems like when I try to go to sleep, this overwhelming amount of information just floods into my brain and I can't stop it. I literally lay there, yawning and frustrated with my eyes closed while thinking about everything from work, to a commercial on t.v., a license plate I saw that day, the smell of rain, just completely random stuff. And songs, ugh. I love music, but I can hear a song once and I will sing it in my head for weeks and it drives me nuts because I can't stop it. My brain just takes off without me and I wish I could stop it. I need a way to kind of "turn-off" my brain at night so I can sleep peacefully. I thought it could be stress keeping me awake, but I don't have much stress in life...in fact I have almost no stress at all. I've got an awesome job with part time hours, all of my bills are current and I have no debt except a mortgage which is also current, I have a great husband who has a great job, no kids so I'm not stressin' there. I'm on my feet at work and I walk around a lot, so I think I get a decent amount of excercise to tire me out. I take a multi-vitamin, I eat lots of vegetables and I don't drink soda, tea or coffee. I don't drink alcohol very often, maybe just a drink or two on Saturday nights. I've tried taking over-the-counter sleeping pills but they just make me even more tired and groggy the next day and I had to stop taking them after a couple weeks so I wouldn't make a habit out of it. I bought a high-end air purifier for my bedroom as well as a sound machine with soothing nature sounds. I keep the bedroom dark and the wall color is very light and soothing. I keep the lights off in the living room for about an hour before I go to bed, so that I get sleepy while watching tv. I've tried having sex before bed to tire me out, but I still can't sleep well. I've tried yoga, taking the dog for a walk, reading something boring, etc. I won't drink warm milk because that grosses me out, but I am open to other suggestions. I don't have health insurance right now, so I am putting-off going to the Doctor. I'm going to give this a try before I call to make an appointment... I am willing to try all reasonable suggestions. Thanks in advance =)  more

I have already answered some, but if they are wrong please correct them =) THANKYOU!!! 1.What are the different methods of roasting coffee? There are simple ways of roasting coffee and there are more technical ways, simple ways are pan/stovetop and oven roasting. In between there are home air-poppers and home drum roasters. More technical ways are the many commercial roasters out there. 2.How do you choose the correct grind for the method of brewing? If the method of brewing is only a short time in the appliance then the coffee should be grinded very finely so that the flavors release quickly. If the coffee spends more time in the appliance, such as a percolator the coffee needs to be a coarser grind so that the flavors don’t release too quickly. 3.How should coffee be stored? It should be stored in a cool dry place, like wine. Once the package is open it needs to be stored in an air tight container and used as soon as possible. 4.What equipment is used in coffee making? There are automatic coffee machines that make the whole coffee at the touch of a button and there are many other pieces of equipment used to manually make coffee; -Coffee bean grinders -Percolators -Boiling water units -Espresso machines -Milk frothing jugs -Milk thermometers -Filters -Cups and mugs -Saucers -Spoons 5.What are the different ways of brewing coffee? 1.Turkish - Grind: pulverized 2.Percolator – Grind: coarse 3.Regular drip – Grind: medium-course 4.Plunger – Grind: medium-course 5.Vacuum – Grind: course 6.Cold-water – Grind: course 7.Espresso – Grind: fine 6.What are the different ways in which coffee is served? -Black -White (with milk) -With cream -With or without sugar -Chocolate or cinnamon added 7.What is a scented tea? 8.What is the difference between tea and tea bags? 9.Why is tea brewed? 10. How are milk, lemon and sugar used in tea? 11. How are garnishes used to decorate tea? 12. How should tea be stored? 13. How should tea be served? 14. Why are non-alcoholic drinks gaining in popularity? 15. What fruit and vegetables (fresh, tinned and frozen) does your establishment use? 16. What dairy products are used in non-alcoholic drinks? 17. What cordials and syrups are used in non-alcoholic drinks? 18. What equipment is used to make non-alcoholic drinks? 19. What garnishes are used in your establishment? 20. What glassware is used in your establishment? 21. Why should equipment be kept clean? 22. Why should equipment be maintained correctly?  more

Resolved Question: Store Bought Coffee Pods vs Making Your Own Coffee Pods?

My grandmother has one of those coffee makers that uses coffee pods. She loves it, but the pods get a little pricey for her. I've seen commercials for machines you can use to make your own coffee pods. I was looking for one for her for Christmas, but I can't seem to find any information on them. Does anybody have any experience with "make your own coffee pod" machines? And if so, any suggestions for a specific make/model?  more

Resolved Question: How do I create drinks without MIXES for a Frozen Drink Machine?

Ok. Professional answers only. If you do not know the true answer please keep moving. Thanks. I purchased an Ugolini Cecilware MT2 Granita Machine for my cafe in MEXICO. Great site, but I am looking for recipes for a commercial smoothie/granita machine and not for MIXES.  more

Resolved Question: Do you remember when?

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN....? All the girls had ugly gym uniforms? It took five minutes for the TV warm up? Nearly everyone's Mom was at home when the kids got home from school? Nobody owned a purebred dog? When a quarter was a decent allowance? You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny? Your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces? All your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels? You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot? Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box? It was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents? They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed. . . and they did? When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car...to cruise, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people went steady? No one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked? Lying on your back in the grass with your friends? and saying things like, 'That cloud looks like a... '? Playing baseball with no adults to help kids with the rules of the game? Stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger? And with all our progress, don't you just wish, just once, you could slip back in time and savor the slower pace? Share it with the children of today. When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home? Basically we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the threat. Send this on to someone who can still remember Nancy Drew, the Hardy? Boys, Laurel and Hardy, Howdy Dowdy and the Peanut Gallery, the LoneRanger, The Shadow Knows, Nellie Bell , Roy and Dale, Trigger and Buttermilk. . ..as well as summers filled with bike rides, baseball games, Hula Hoops, bowling and visits to the pool, and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar. Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, 'Yeah, I remember that'? I am sharing this with you today because it ended with a double dog dare to pass it on. To remember what a double dog dare is, read on. And remember that the perfect age is somewhere between old enough to know better and too young to care. How many of these do you remember? Candy &nb sp;c i garettes Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles. Coffee shops with table side jukeboxes. Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers. Newsreels before the movie. P. F. Fliers. Telephone numbers with a word prefix...(Raymond 4-601). Party lines. Peashooters. Howdy Dowdy. Hi-Fi's & 45 RPM records. 78 RPM records! Green Stamps. Mimeograph paper. The Fort Apache Play Set. Do you remember a time when.... De c isions were made by going 'Eeny-meeny-miney-moe'? Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, 'Do Over!'? 'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest? Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening? It wasn't odd to have two or three 'Best Friends'? The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was 'cooties'? Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot? Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute commercials for action figures? 'Oly-Oly-oxen-free' made perfect sense? Spinning around, getting dizzy, and falling down was cause for giggles? The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team? War was a c a rd game? Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle? Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin? Water balloons were the ultimate weapon? If you can remember most or all of these, then you have lived!!!!!!! Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their 'grown-up' life . . I double-dog-dare-ya! I know this is super long, but thought some of you could use a " I remember when". Have a great day and Happy Halloween everyone ahh guys I wasnt around long when most of this was going on..lol I was a late 70's baby so missed most of it. But there are a few things I do remember. Also there are some homes with cloths lines in the backyard, penny candy is still 2 for 1 but its rare. Just look in my parents back yard..lol  more

Resolved Question: Coffee machine lease?

Hi, I have just entered into a lease on a commercial expresso machine in which I am tied in for 2 years. However, 3 months into the contract my business is no longer viable so do not require this machine. Surely there is no way i am obligated to pay a lease monthly for a 2 year period? I am unsure of my rights, I understand if you are unable to continue a contract there may be penalties but what happens if your circumstances change?  more

Resolved Question: Help- Starbucks Problem

I have to make a case study (this is my 1st one) about Starbucks. The central problem is Starbucks MARKETING. Essentially, Starbucks is struggling because it has lost its unique atmosphere. I need 3 alternatives to the problem as well as 4 advantages & disadvantages for each alternative. I think I have 3 alternatives but I don’t know if they are good enough or will really solve my central problem from a MARKETING perspective (or if I have gone off track and answered a different problem). *Please help me come up with some detailed ideas for alternatives & advantages/disadvantages and help me better the ones I have developed. I've been to Starbucks a few times before however I'm not as familiar with everything they offer (promotions/if they freshly scoop their coffee etc) because each Starbucks varies. I have done some research but it hasn't been very helpful because a lot of what I read isn't accurate. I would really appreciate your help, innovative ideas, and any useful incite into Starbucks. Thank you! ---- My Alternatives: 1-Cleanliness/Hygiene- they should be more thorough in cleaning their machines, frequently clean tables, use gloves to serve food etc. 2-Improve their interior designs- make it more homely in ALL Starbucks with comfortable seating etc. 3- Commercials/Advertising- I know they haven’t done commercials because they don’t want to take the usual advertising approach, they want to be unique and keep a connection with customers by the way they have their store atmosphere, but I don’t think that it’s helping. I think by advertising and implementing the concepts of the “feel” they want in their shops will help attract ppl and keep that atmosphere going. Please help me come up with some ideas for advantages/disadvantages. Also please feel free to critique my alternatives and help me come up with better more innovative ones. I am completely new to this and am having a hard time, I would appreciate any and all help. Keep in mind that I have to take this from a Marketing perspective, NOT a Financial one so coupons and lower prices won’t help unless I can incorporate it in a marketing strategy. Thank you!  more

Voting Question: I have just picked up a used commercial coffee maker and not sure of the voltage either 220 or 110v?

The lead has three wires black, white and green. I was under the impression black hot, white neutral and green earth for 110v but some one has told me this could be a 220v machine. There is no data plate. I thought if it was 220v would we not have a red wire for the other 110v leg or is that now the white wire !! How do i check if the machine is 220 and not 110 to be sure and safe as it is an electronic operated coffee maker Thanks so much The unit has no plug on it, only the bare wires, it is in the USA and i am told some coffee makers commercial type are 220V.not 110v like Residential but the wires do not make sense for 220v setup. .  more

Resolved Question: Office Coffee Maker: Can you draw hot water from the tap during the brewing period?

This is a huge source of debate in my office. We have a Bunn office coffee maker, the kind that is hooked up to the water line (you don't have to fill it). Whenever coffee is brewing, everyone says you CANNOT draw any water from the hot water tap on the front of the machine. Is this true? Why wouldn't you be able to brew coffee and still get water from the tap? I could understand if you had to fill the water yourself and maybe there is a finite amount of water needed for the pot but it doesn't make sense that a commercial coffee maker couldn't handle that?  more

Resolved Question: My milk does not come out right!?

I am new to making coffee, When I froth milk on my 2 head commercial espresso machine, the milk froths well 145 degrees but, when i pour into the cup, it gives me runny milk without the thick milk as regular baristas. It leaves the foam on top (pitcher). My latte turns out to become watery as I would like it to be thick. Long story short, I don't think it is right and It does not allow me to make fancy designs. Am I doing something wrong? My coffee sort of tastes like burnt coffee too? Is that a good coffee?  more

Resolved Question: How to drain water from a commercial coffee machine?

Imagine draining water from a one gallon milk jug, while keeping the jug totally upright without tipping it. What would be the best way? I've already tried an industrial water pump...(which didn't work at all for some reason) Then I tried a black and decker drill-mounted pump that did work, but then broke after 3 uses. I'm looking towards some kind of gravity actuated device... what do you think??? An average commercial coffee maker holds about 300 ounces of water, and should not be tipped over in any way. PS. Taking the tank out and emptying it is A LOT of work and would not be a viable option. Thanks!  more

Design Coffee Shop will begin operations in July 2009. Plans also include undertaking a small expansion with 6-8 months of beginning operations." Brief outline of your business concept: Design coffee shop is company involved more greatest the originally coffee shop It providing graphic design and marketing communication services. it not provide big business . It just likes a small business Every day, millions of Americans wanted to sit down and enjoy the smell cup of coffee and lay back & see the background artwork from graphic design artist. "A person had dreamed to spend more than 50 cents for a cup of coffee. A few years, now they glad to pay $1 to $4 for their cappuccino, mocha latte or vanilla ice blended drink The specialty-coffee business is growing at a healthy pace. The completive the Starbucks, The Coffee Bean, Pet’s, Dietrich’s and other major chains serve average quality drinks in establishments that have the same generic design appearance. Indeed, Starbucks and The Coffee Bean are often referred to as "fast food" coffeehouses due to their "cookie cutter" design. Now that Americans' coffee preferences have broadened and matured, many are asking for more from their design coffee shop Vision and Mission Statement The design coffee shop will become the more like small museum. We will serve a perfect product at a very competitve price We will also be a meeting place for graphic design artists and a place for them to show off their work. We will create an atmosphere conducive to creative expression and promote the creative process. Our primary goals over the next year are: 1. Secure financing for start-up of at least $1,000 for space and equipment. 2. Renovate our space in San Berniorndio. 3. Acquire equipment necessary for business, i.e. coffee pot, cappuccino machines, blenders, etc. 4. Make agreement with coffee distributors, and bakery vendors. 5. Create a cozy, artist friendly environment (i.e. choice of colors, choice of music, decor) 6. Open for business and become the foremost coffeehouse in the area. MARKET OPPORTUNITY Ownership The Design coffee shop is a general partnership between Lisa and Sandy Mason. Each partner is equally financial involvement in operation and management of the shop, each to her own abilities. Location and Facilities The Design coffee shop is located in the Old Town section of San Bernardino, California. We currently own the building we will occupy, though painting and renovation are sorely needed. Products and Services Description of Products and Services The Design coffee shop will offer high quality coffee, tea, hot coca, and cappuccino, at a very reasonable price. we also buy cooking from other store. Key Features of the Products and Services All drinks will be made with filtered water and the highest quality ingredients we can get. Frozen drinks will have caramel or chocolate syrup drizzled in the glass and over the drink. Cappuccino and hot coca will have whipped cream toppings as well as the option for candy sprinkles. Cookies will have the option of a chocolate or caramel dip and sprinkles. We will offer designer flavored cream and five kinds of sweetener, i.e. sugar, honey, Equal, Splenda, and Sweet-n-Low. Cream and sweetener is at no extra charge. Production of Products and Services We will use only filtered water and will brew our coffee in commercial coffeepots that will be thoroughly cleaned between uses. Future Products and Services Within the next three to five years we expect to branch out into catering and offer homemade pies, whole or by the slice. Comparative Advantages in Production Our low overhead and cheaper pricing will be the key to our success. Industry Overview Market Research There are other businesses that serve only coffee in our Old Town. Size of the Industry Nationally, the coffee shop industry is quite large, but in somewhere, there are more. Key Industry Trends This industry is booming at the present time, there is a trend toward small cozy places and away from the large generic chain. Industry Outlook The coffee business does not show signs of slowing down. With new innovations such as flavorings and additives, it should continue for some time. Marketing Strategy Target Markets Our target market is a artist and writers who need a nice quite cozy place to think and do their work. Description of Key Competitors Of the three coffee shops in the area, one is a large chain with a very expensive product, one is really a home-style restaurant, the last one, and our biggest competitor is an antique store with a "tea room". Analysis of Competitive Position Our pricing strategy and comfortable atmosphere will be the key to our success. None of the other shops in the area can offer this. Pricing Strategy We will offer three sizes of drinks, small $1.00, medium $1.50 and large $2.00. Our cookies and brownies will sell for $1.00 each Promotion Strategy We intend to advertise in the local newspapers and offer a "frequent drinkers club" discount to our best customers. We will also send out ads via direct mail, which will include cents off coupons. Management and Staffing Organizational Structure Our organizational structure will be a simple pyramid style with the owners putting in as much work as the employees. Pyrimid a tall hierarchical structure, in other words, then I would be the boss, with a general manager working as your employee, who has a team, that on its turn supervises the employees. I think I mean a Flat structure (with the owners being “one of the guys”) Management Team April and Arlene will share management and supervisory responsibilities equally. Arlene for the morning shift. April for the afternoon shift. Staffing We will hire two busboys and two waitresses; these will be recruited from the local high school. Labor Market Issues In this area there are many high school students looking for work, part time or full time, we want to fill that need. Market Risks The main risk is monetary. The area may not be ready for a place like ours and we may not do a great business. Implementation Plan Implementation Activities and Dates . Complete renovation 2/15/09 Purchase and set up equipment Interview staff Hire staff 3. Begin preliminary advertising 2/15/09 (Not yet) Operate for 1 week unannounced (to get the kinks out, people notice "new" businesses, word of mouth will get out there, be ready) Notify local newspaper your grand opening will be (no advertising cost, you'll be swamped!) 4. Purchase and setup equipment 2/15/09 (This is mentioned above.) 5. Open for business 7/1/09 Financial Plan Balance Sheet Current Assets: Building $150,000 5 computer $ Furnishings $5,000 if I go for a good atmosphere, you’ll need more than that probably, unless you get money from the government (you are promoting culture in the end!) Equipment $1,000 Cash Arlene $5,000 April $4,500 Accounts Receivable None Inventory Coffee $1,000 Tea $500 Other Assets Cups $3,000 Total Current Assets $182,800 Liabilities: Accounts Payable (monthly) Water $200 Phone $150 Electric $500 Donut Vendor $1,000 Warehouse Club $1,000 Coffee Distributor $1,000 Wages $5,000 Advertising $1,000 Taxes Payable Property Taxes $500 Employee Taxes $2,000 Operating Loans Payable Startup Loan $500 Printer $ 97 Total Liabilities $12,947 on going per month Projected Income March 05 Coffee $6,000 Tea $2,000 Cookies $1,500 Donuts $2,500 Misc. $4,000 Total Income for March $16,000 Total Projected Net Profit (Cost/Benefit) $3,150 for March This would assume 20 pots of coffee sold a day, plus an assortment of other items. This also assumes the market will not increase or decrease due to weather or economics. This would be an average month.  more
