4 Cup Coffee Makers Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: Why should I not make less than 4 cups of coffee at a time in a 12-cup coffee maker?

I recently got a Gevalia 12-cup coffee maker. The instructions recommend not making less than 4 cups at a time. Why is that? Is it really going to matter if I make less? I got it primarily for personal single use, so I won't often need that much coffee at once.  more

Resolved Question: Does coffee lose strength after time?

I made some coffee the same way i've been making it for years and it normally comes out fine but this time it was like drinking water. I figured i'd try it on my stove top perc. The coffee tasted better but it was still weak as hell. This is a fairly new container of coffee. I used it a few times with no problem but now all of the sudden it brews like water. I use a scoop. I normally brew 8 cups and use 4 scoops. I also use an extra strength setting. The coffee maker has been cleaned about 5 times. It has a self cleaning mechanism. It also has a water filter. I don't know if that means anything. I Keep my coffee in the fridge. I also do everything the same and i am getting different results.  more

Resolved Question: Coffee brewing at work?

I work in an office that has cubicles. I was considering purchasing a small 4 cup coffee maker for my desk. Do you think the coffee smell would bother other workers? It is a very small office, so we don't have a breakroom and most people eat/drink at their desk or go out. Normally I make coffee at home and bring it in a thermos, but it would be much easier if I could just make it at work. Would it bother you if the cube next you had a coffee pot on?  more

Resolved Question: my cuisinart grind and brew coffeemaker dgb-650 is not making very hot coffee?

I just got this coffeemaker and it say if you are making less then 5 cups to push the button that says 1-4 cups so that the water is double heated. The coffee didn't seem to be really hot. Resolved Question: I want to use a thermal carafe on my coffee maker instead of the glass one-is this possible?

I have a Cuisinart Brew Central 12-Cup Coffee Maker and it only stays on for 2 hours from brew time. some days my husband wakes up 4 hours before me and I am left with cold coffee. I want to get a carafe and saw that cuisinart makes coffee makers that come with a thermal carafe. Is it possible to buy a replacement carafe for that model and use it with my coffee maker (it has the hot plate on the base)? Or am I better off buying just a seperate thermal carafe to have him pour the hot coffee into? Any suggestions on a good brand? Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: If I buy a $30-$40 espresso machine, will I be compromising on quality?

I want to buy one of my good friends an espresso machine for Christmas, but I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. If I buy a $30-$40 model, will I be severely compromising on quality? Resolved Question: Why is a cup of coffee considered 5 oz. according to "Mr. Coffee" maker.?

I filled coffee pot up with 4 cups of water (According to Pot). When I put the water in a measuring pitcher it was only 20 oz. Why is a cup of coffee only 5 oz? What brought this up is I maxed out my Coffee maker with water. It barely makes 2 mugs of coffee. (The pot is listed as a 4 cup coffee maker)  more

Resolved Question: Ground coffee amounts different on different appliances?

So my iced coffee maker is asking for 2-4 heaping TBSP per each quart of iced coffee to be made (this includes water going through and the ice in the container waiting). Then the hot coffee maker says 1 heaping TBSP per cup of water, and then the coffee package says 2 rounded TBSP (so just a tad more than the hot coffee maker) per 6 oz. Would the fact that the coffee is "breakfast brew" be why it needs more? Which is more accurate? Yeah in case it wasn't obvious, I just started drinking...spent a half hour in the store trying to figure out the differences in coffees (I know whole bean is best already)! Thank you for your help!  more

Resolved Question: What is the perfect amount of coffee to put in the coffee maker to make good tasting coffee?

My mom tells me to put half the amount of spoonfuls than the cups of water. For instance, to use 4 spoonfuls of coffee for 8 cups of water. However it never tastes right when I make it. We use the same spoon every day so that measurement is right. How do you make coffee? Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts is not an option, I want to do it at home.  more

Resolved Question: First time making coffee?

First time making coffee? I bought my first coffee maker yesterday and I read all the instructions and followed the directions and the coffee makers not even brewing the most I get is hot water coming out (because its one of those that dispenses at the push of a button). I put the right amount of water to coffee ratio a tablespoon for each cup. I don't know if its the coffee machine itself or the filter size maybe I got filters that say 2 3/4 in x 3 in on the box. Resolved Question: What's the best type of coffee maker for brewing Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee?

I just brought back some blue mountain coffee from Jamaica. I had read diff types of cofee makers are more suitable for different types of coffees. Which would be best for blue mountian? Also another quick question. I have one small coffee maker that makes maybe 4 cups at most, its a mesh screen instead of a filter and there is no hole in the bottom for coffe to trip through only the sides are mesh. My other coffee maker is large and takes cone shaped paper filters. I find the smaller one brews a weaker cup of coffee. I'm guessing because water isn't forced to go through the coffee where as it is in my other machine. I guess I'm wondernig what are these two types and which is better?  more

Resolved Question: HELP! How does a coffee maker work?

I just bought by first coffee maker... a "5-cup" Black and Decker coffee maker, and I am pretty confused. The directions say to fill the water reservoir to the 5-cup mark, but that's only 4 cups. Is this right? Why does it say 5-cup if it's only 4 cup? When I brewed for the first time with only water and no ground coffee, the water that came into the cup only yielded 3.5 cups from the 4 cups I put in. Is this right? When I actually use ground coffe, how much will it make if I used (for example) 2 actual cups of water? PLEASE HELP!  more

Resolved Question: What would, say, 8 cups of coffee do to my body?

Normally when I have to be up all night to study, coffee is my best friend--I have a 4 cup coffee maker so I'll usually brew as much, drink it, brew more, drink it, etc until I've finished my work--or until it's time to go to class the next day. If it's only done once and a while (this is the second time I've done it this term) is it really all that harmful to my body? (I've had 6 cups so far this evening, and plan to drink more later) so what the general consensus is: no long-term ill effects?  more

Resolved Question: Coffee lovers, these are questions for you!?

I have several questions about coffee for the Yahoo Answers Community could answer. This is a poll and information questions all in one. 1) Is there a right way to drink coffee? Is cream, milk, 1/2 & 1/2, etc bad? 2) If you have a French Press, Espresso Machine, Auto Drip Coffee Maker, or Instant Coffee; which would you use? And Why? 3) If you have a French Press, Auto Drip Coffee Maker, or Instant Coffee; Which do you use for a strong cup of coffee? And How? 4) If you have a big container of pre-grounded coffee or a small bag of whole coffee beans; Which do you use first? What do I do with the other? (All original packaging) What will air-tight containers do to coffee? 5) You have a espresso machine, pre-grounded coffee, and a coffee grinder; is it OK to fine grind the coffee and use it? Will it be better if I use coffee beans? 6) Ignoring cost, Which would you do? Brew your own coffee/espresso or Buy one at a coffee shop? 7) If you want to buy a cup of coffee/specialty drink (Iced or espresso, etc.) Where do you go: Coffee Shop or Fast Food Restaurant. Why? Feel free to answer as many of my questions as you wish. Some other questions or info I forgot to add. 1) Using a French Press, Is it bad to brew for a long time? How long should it take? 2) Is it bad to buy bulk coffee? (300+ cup containers of grounded coffee? If I do have it, what should I do with it? 3) So, If I have bulk coffee (Like from the question above) I can't use it in an espresso machine? (Finely Ground the grounds.) 4) Iced coffee, is it evil? Is there a right way to make it? (I put hot coffee over a cup full of ice.) Should I use espresso or strong coffee for it? 5) If I want to make my own espresso specialty drink (Cappuccino, Latte, etc) How much milk do I use to steam per shot? 6) Steam milk, What kind of milk should I use? Whole, 2%, 1%, Skim, or Half & Half? Can I use other kinds? (Ex: Soy, Rice)  more

Resolved Question: I am a cna and one of my duties is to help in the dining rm....?

We are to transport the ones in wheel chairs and for the others in walkers to help them in and out. This is total caos! There are only 2 cna's and 48 residents. We start at 4 oclock and it takes til 5 to get them seated put glasses on tables, coffee cups, pour ice and tea, milk , juice etc. There is one cook and another cook that helps us for a couple hours to serve the food. We are going like mad to get this done, also we have to remove all wheel chairs and walkers from the dining rm and transport people into chairs, instead of letting them eat from the chairs. When they finish we have to remove the dishes, clean them stack them in the kitchen, all trash removed and then transport them back and bring walkers back in. There is only 3 ppl that can walk in alone. There is 6 in wheel chairs. There is the cook that helps bossing us constantly about knit picking things, ex. who gets their desert first. Also she tries to make us do things that are beyond the guidelines, such as, taking carts in the dining area to pick up plates, trash cans in there. I have never reported this on her but yesterday I did report how she jerked the cake from my hand and said that resident has no patients , she needs to wait. Well when the director talked to her first then brought me in, I was marked as the trouble maker in other words. When I told the director of how I put the residents first she considered just said, and thats what you should do. Now work things out and get along. This evening the same cook was trying to transport someone from their chair to the walker, has no license or training and blocked me with her arm when I had some one needed to go to the bath rm quickly. I said move in a loud voice. What can I do? I hate this stress and her bossing , also the other cna's do too. I have already went to the director, I don't even think she knows what the residents need. She barely comes out of her office. I have went to her twice before over someone being cruel to the residents and she finds someway to smoothe it over and take sides with the others. I don't want to cause a lot of trouble because of getting fired. No one there likes her, not even the residents. She just has a dry personality and a high attitude as if she is greater than the rest. I realize I cannot change it so how do I deal with it , without her help?  more

Resolved Question: Confused about coffee maker?

Okay so I've always been confused on the lines of a coffee pot. What does each number mean. I mean does it mean ounces or cups or what? But also it seems like each coffee tells me different. Like Folgers is 1/4 cup for a serving and Starbucks is 2 Tablespoons to 6 oz of water. Does that mean fill water up to the number 6 line? Ugh! Im so confused!  more

Voting Question: Coffee maker for a senior with limited abilitys?

I am trying to find a good coffee maker for a 87 year old woman that lives at home by her self. This coffee maker should have only 1 button on /off, 4 cup, easy to fill and a removable filter. Also, this is hard to explain but you know when you remove the pot and it stops brewing, I dont want that feature, because it make the pot more difficult to put under the filter. Resolved Question: Tips on making a good cup of coffee?

I have a small Krups 4 cup coffee maker and I need help with it. I know how to make coffee in general, but I need to know one thing: What should the ratio be for coffee if I am intending on making 4 cups? I don't desire it to be too strong, but strong enough that I don't see the bottom of the mug when it's full. Can you give me any suggestions on the amount of coffee I should be using? It would be much appreciated. Thank You! Oh, and I am using Folgers original (if that plays any major role).  more

Resolved Question: Is it a disorder if I don't use my nice things?

Whenever I get something nice, I feel like it's too nice to use so it sits until it gets lost, broken, old or whatever. Examples: Nine years ago a co-worker gave me 2 beautiful bars of fancy soaps wrapped in clear plastic. I never used them becaise they were too nice, and now they are turning too gross to use. 4 years ago my sister gave me a pair of ugg boots - I've never worn them even though i LOVE them, because I'm afraid to get them dirty. 3 years ago my brother bought me a very nice high end coffee maker when my old one broke. I've never used it because I don't want to get it dirty, I haven't even removed the stickers, and he'd get mad if he knew, so i tell him I use it and love it! Ever since my old one broke, I've been making gross instant coffee!!!!! He also gave me a gift card for Starbucks I never used and it probably is expired by now, but I didn't want to use it up and run out! I have many nice clothes I never wear so they don't get worn out. I bought an expensive hair conditioner 10 years ago that I NEVER used so it wouldn't run out and recently had to throw it out (got yucky). I got bath salts for a gift a few years ago I can't bring myself to use, so I don't open the pretty packaging. I have tons of boxes of nice wine glasses I've purchased over the years that I never use bec. they are too nice, and instead use plastic disposal cups. I have boxes and boxes of nice candles I never use, instead I use cheap tea candles and the others remain in storage because they're too nice to use. There are MANY more items. Why do I do this? Is it normal? I also have the problem with participating - i feel like I am not worthy of going places. I have purchased tons of tickets for various events but end up giving them away to others who I think deserve to enjoy the event.  more

Resolved Question: can you do this in the office/work?

Try this in the Office for fun.... A co-worker sent this to me today. I thought it was hilarious and could really be fun in the office. Check it out.......... ONE-POINT OFFICE DARES 1) Run one lap around the office at top speed. 2) Ignore the first five people who say 'good morning' to you. 3) Phone someone in the office you barely know, leave your name and say, "Just called to say I can't talk right now. Bye." 4) To signal the end of a conversation, clamp your hands over your ears and grimace. 5) Leave your zipper open for one hour. If anyone points it out, say, "Sorry, I really prefer it this way." 6) Walk sideways to the photocopier. 7) While riding in an elevator, gasp dramatically every time the doors open. THREE-POINT DARES 1) Say to your boss, "I like your style" and shoot him with double-barreled fingers. 2) Babble incoherently at a fellow employee, and then ask, "Did you get all that, I don't want to have to repeat it." 3) Page yourself over the intercom (do not disguise your voice). 4) Kneel in front of the water cooler and drink directly from the nozzle (there must be a 'non-player' within sight). 5) Shout random numbers while someone is counting. FIVE POINT DARES 1) At the end of a meeting, suggest that, for once, it would be nice to conclude with the singing of the national anthem (5 extra points if you actually launch into it yourself). 2) Walk into a very busy person's office and while they watch you with growing irritation, turn the light switch on/off 10 times. 3) For an hour, refer to everyone you speak to as "Bob." 4) Announce to everyone in a meeting that you "really have to go do a number two." 5) After every sentence, say 'Mon' in a really bad Jamaican accent. As in "The reports on your desk, Mon". Keep this up for 1 hour. 6) While an office mate is out, move their chair into the elevator. 7) In a meeting or crowded situation, slap your forehead repeatedly and mutter, "Shut up, all of you just shut up!" 8) At lunchtime, get down on your knees and announce, "As God as my witness, I'll never go hungry again." 9) In a colleague's DAY PLANNER, write in the 10am slot: "See how I look in tights."(5 Extra points if it is a male, 5 more if he is your boss) 10) Carry your keyboard over to your colleague and ask, "You wanna trade?" 11) Repeat the following conversation 10 times to the same person: "Do you hear that?" "What?" "Never mind, it's gone now." 12) Come to work in army fatigues and when asked why, say, "I can't talk about it." 13) Posing as a maitre d', call a colleague and tell him he's won a lunch for four at a local restaurant. Let him go. 14) Speak with an accent (French, German, Porky Pig, etc) during a very important conference call. 15) Find the vacuum and start vacuuming around your desk. 16) Hang a 2' long piece of toilet roll from the back of your pants and act genuinely surprised when someone points it out. 17) Present meeting attendees with a cup of coffee and biscuits, smashing each biscuit with your fist. 18) During the course of a meeting, slowly edge your chair towards the door. 19) Arrange toy figures on the table to represent each meeting attendee, move them according to the movements of their real-life counterparts. And if that wasn't enough for you...How to keep a healthy level of insanity: 1) At lunchtime, sit in your parked car with sunglasses on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if they slow down. 2) Tell your children over dinner. "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go." 3) Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that. 4) Put your wastebasket on your desk and label it "IN". 5) Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over his or her caffeine addictions, switch to espresso. 6) Finish all your sentences with "In accordance with the prophecy." 7) Don’t use any punctuation 8) Use, too...much; punctuation! 9) As often as possible, skip rather than walk. 10) Ask people what sex they are. Laugh hysterically after they answer. 11) Specify that your drive-through order is "to go." 12) Sing along at the opera. 13) Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don't rhyme. 14) Put mosquito netting around your work area. Play a tape of jungle sounds all day. 15) Five days in advance tell your friends you can't attend their party because you're not in the mood. 16) Have your co-workers address you by your wrestling name, "Rock Hard." 17) When the money comes out of the ATM, scream "I Won! I Won! 3rd time this week!!!" 18) When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot yelling, "Run for your lives, they're loose!"  more
